    3. My apologies. It is late and I just forgot to put in a few facts. Hillside Cemetery & Funeral Home has the address of 2600 19th AvenueN.E. Minneapolis, Minnesota 55418 and I was wondering if anyone could tell from this information what District of the city Minneapolis this would be considered.

Thank you. > Barb Padgette Not much on him. He was in Chicago in 1930, married to "Cathelyn" (spelling?). The Social Security Death Index shows his death Nov 1962; but more important, his SSN was 333-10-7203. You can order his application for his SSN, the SS-5. It will tell you the names of his father and mother. There is a Lionel M. Daly, born 15 Aug 1919, died 19 Jan 1990, his SSN was 364-16-1978 Hollis born 3 Jun 1896, Died Dec 1971 in Yucaipa, San Bernardino County, CA. SSN 550-09-5372, He was in CA in 1930. Vincent born 30 Nov 1898, died Nov 1965 in Los Angeles. SSN 560-16-2323 Here is a "possible" Beatrice Daly, died 30 Sep 1941 in Los Angeles, born 30 Jan 1867 in Canada, mothers maiden name was Downs. This somewhat fits with Vincent being in Los Angeles...but it is a big town and there are probably a few Beatrice Daly. If the SSN application shows the mother of Vincent or Lionel being about the same age as this Beatrice, you could order the original death record. Knowing the date of deaths, you could research for obituaries of the brothers.

    2. Diana Owen
    3. Hi Mike, After the Civil War ended in 1865 there was a huge migration west. The reason was LAND. My family moved from NY to MN in 1867. If your Thomas Connor married Mary E. Willard in 1869 in MN, it is possible he was part of this post Civil War migration. Have you checked the BLM-Bureau of Land Management records for Minnesota, which are on line, for Thomas Connor. It won't tell you about his ancestors, but it will tell you when if and when he applied for land and every scrap of information helps. Also, have you ever looked for a Thomas O'Connor? Perhaps he dropped the "O" to be more americanized. 1. Note from List Administrator
    2. Ladies and Gentlemen: This list is specifically for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas directly related to genealogy. IT IS NOT TO BE USED TO ABUSE OTHER PERSONS. PERIOD. If you have a personal comment to make off list that does not refer to genealogy, be my guest. Then you and the other party(ies) involved will be able to decide for yourselves just how much you are willing to be abused. However, you may not, on this list, take your anger, frustration or any other abuse out on more than 300 other persons. There are already persons that have been unsubscribed by myself from the list and there have also been persons blocked from rejoining this list. If you have a problem with that, contact me off list or Rootsweb, if you prefer. This is only the second time that I have had to intervene on this list. I would have put an end to this sooner, but I was away from the weekend visiting my son who is home for 7 days on leave from Iraq. To those members who have been subjected to this in my absence, I apologize. If you are not happy with the assistance that you have received on this list you are invited to unsubscribe. However, any repetition of this conduct and I will do it for you. Again, we have some very wonder people on this list. A few bad apples are not going to spoil the gold in our barrel. Again, my deepest apologies for this incident and thank you for your forbearance. Now, this subject is closed. Let's move on with our research and great rapport that we have enjoyed in the past. Scarlett

    1. The Story Tellers
    2. This was posted to the Nova Scotia list and thought others might enjoy reading it ****************** THE STORY TELLERS..... We are the chosen. My feelings are, in each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know, and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us: Tell our story. So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do? It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are them and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That, is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and put flesh on the bones. Borrowed from the Beattie Project Newsletter Author unknown

    3. You are right, it doesn't take long to scan and delete, but even easier if the subject line is well written. I try to put the last name(s) I am looking for the County, State and time period. If it has those things, others can look and automatically know if it is something they can help with or will help them. I haven't had much luck on the lists with my Minnesota clan, but have found them valuable for my other lines. I recently posted my info, and will do so again as soon as I find some more of my info. I am researching Fairbanks, Dufour, LeClaire, Nevoux, Demarais all in Northern MN, and Canada, most were of Chippewa descent, throughout the 1800s. 3. Margit, you make a good point about posting answers to queries to the entire list. I admit I'm guilty of often answering privately to the person asking for family info, and should actually be sharing it with all so it can remain in the archives for other researchers. If a person is appreciative of my initial effort to help, I often go out of my way to dig up newspaper articles, scour through genweb sites or search the HeritageQuest book archives. Thank you for reminding me of the importance to share what I've found with the entire list.
