    1. Newspaper lookup - 1910 - Hennepin
    2. Marjorie McDougall
    3. Does anyone do lookups in the Minneapolis Journal or know someone who might? No, there is no one available at the usual R A O G K that I've been able to discover!! And, this isn't noted on the Newspaper online sites that I've been able to locate. 1) In the days prior to MAY 4, 1910 a notice of engagement of FRANCES LOSSIE ROSS to EDWARD P. GARLAND of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. AND/OR- 2) Early JUNE 1910 a notice/article of the marriage of this couple - FRANCES LOSSIE ROSS to EDWARD P. GARLAND. This marriage should have taken place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Frances's father was Rev. A. W. Ross. Looking forward to any advice you might provide. Thank you. Marjorie Canada

    2. Michael spencer
    3. Hi list, I appreciate for those with no connections it will not be all that relevant but for those with British ancestry, the Yesterdays site contains thousands of names of folks many of whom were strays or strangers, away from their recognised abode or expected parish. The Settlement Certificates and particularly the Settlement Examinations give a good account of what can be found in Record Offices and if you have any such overseas connections with the UK they are well worth the effort in trying to see if such a document(s) survives for your ancestors, particularly if they have "moved". It may be they are even within this list, but if not, it still gives a good idea of what can be found in their respective parishes and County Record Offices. Bastardy records may name the father, Apprenticeships let you know who the young lads and lasses went to serve, some as young as seven years. There may be instances of Apprentices running away because of cruelty on behalf of the Master. Removal documents record those folks who fell on hard times and were removed back to their last legal Settlement. Thousands were moved all over the Country. mike http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm

    3. I believe it is in Czech and it's a religious text. I think biskupa is the word for bishop and liturgicka is liturgy. I searched anywho.com for any Koudelkys in WI, MN, and MI. I didn't find any with that surname spelling. For Emma's line, the "r" usually meant "resides", but in this case, that address is different than Franks. Unless it was the address for her employment. Stockton is in San Joaquin County. I looked in the abbreviations for that issue and found "SJC" was the Stockton Junior College. There was no abbreviations for "SJCH". In 1967, that address was found to be the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. At that time, Rev Ysidro Armenta was pastor. But, this does give a "possible" lead for you. California Death Index for Frank Joseph Schad, born 10 Oct 1881, died 30 Sep 1955 in Placer County. County recorder records for Placer and San Joaquin Counties, might hold documents recorded by them, property related, death/power-of-attorney related, etc. I checked marriage records for "Schad" from 1950's to 1970's, no Emma. He was about 74 when he died, she would have been about 65. If you have not: Get Frank Schad's obituary, get it. It may have the location where he was to be buried, Emma may be there. Post in the Placer County sites: http://www.rootsweb.com/~caplacer/index.htm I would start in the Placer and San Joaquin county's. Since she had sisters also living in California, I would "Guess" she probably stayed near her family since she didn't have children. Ron Bestrom

In 1880 she came to America and on Oct. 17 of the same year she married Hans P. Hanson, of Spring Lake. For four years following their marriage the young couple made their home with the groom’s parents. In 1885 they moved onto the Ole Gardner farm (now occupied by the Albert M. Nelson family) which Mr. Hanson had bought. After residing there for 20 years they moved to Spring Valley, which has since been their home.Eleven children were born to them -five sons and six daughters nine of whom are Living: Peter of Spring Valley, Marie (Mrs.Raymond Fischbach) of Manteca, Calif., Gena (Mrs. Neal McGuire) of Berkeley, Calif., Clara (Mrs. Lacon Case) of Ft. Bliss Texas, Emma (Mrs. Frank Schad) of Heron Lake, Minn., Herman, William, and Lillian, all of Minneapolis, and Oliver, of Aberdeen, S.D. A son and a daughter died in infancy. For ten years or more Mrs. Hanson has been in declining health; seven years ago she had a stroke and she has since been confined to her home. The last years she was only able to move about by the aid of a wheeled chair. Shortly after New Year s her condition took a decided turn for the worse and she was forced to take to her bed. After lying in a coma two days she died Saturday, Feb. 23. Funeral was held from the home and the Spring Lake church Feb. 27, Rev. Berven officiating. Special singing at. the church was furnished by the Spring Lake choir. The funeral was attended by a large number from Minneapolis, St. Paul, Heron lake, Minn., Aberdeen, S. D., Rock Elm, Spring Valley, Glenwood City, Emerald and Spring Lake. Burial was made in the Spring Lake cemetery. Besides her husband and children all of whom (with the exception of her three daughters in California and Texas) attended the funeral. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren, also by an older brother, Haakon Folden, in Norway. A younger brother, Peter Fo1den of Spring Lake, died in 1933. Mrs. Hanson’s death has left an aching void in the hearts of her loved ones. Her life was adorned by many beautiful Christian virtues. In her death the Spring Lake congregation and the Ladies Aid have lost a most faithful and loyal member. As a tribute to the memory of their beloved mother, her sons and daughters made a gift of $50 to the Spring Lake Ladies Aid and $5 to the church choir. The Ladies Aid also made a gift of $5 to the missions of the Lutheran church. Another gift of $5 in her memory was made by her husband to radio station WCAL, which through the broadcasting of its Norwegian services brought comfort to her when she was unable to attend services. Memorial gifts to missions, the Old People’s Homes at Wittenberg and Stoughton, the Spring Lake church and WCAL were also made by Miss Josie Banks, Mrs. Peter Folden and family, Mrs. A. 3. Years ago, I perused microfilm at my local Mormon family history library and found my relative's MN death record. It was from line entry books, which a county recorder entered, as he went from farm to farm and recorded all the births, deaths, etc. for a period of time. Don't remember if it was year or quarter or what. My Mary/Polly SMITH died June 13, 1870, which I believe was the year this type records were started. There was room on the line entry for the names of parents, but mine were not entered and also place of birth, which in my case was the wrong birth state was entered. But it was so nice to see her death documented, even if I did have to turn the crank of the microfilm machine, for quite a while in order to find her. Good Luck, Diana Chapman Owen

    1. A HUGE Thanks
    2. Good Morning to Listmembers, I just got back from my trip to Minnesota from visiting my mother with my sister and daughter. We had a wonderful time and couldn't have asked for any more perfect weather. We are from Florida so it was just gorgeous for us. I want to give a huge thanks to Randy Wendel, from Bloomington, and to Rose at the Jackson County Historical Society for all their wonderful help. Randy, yes..., St. Paul Cemetary is the Rost Township cemetary I had inquired directions on and it was amazing. I was finding gravestones and relatives of mine I wasn't in search of just quite yet. Thank you so much. To Rose, I didn't have much time to spend chatting with you, but what we did chat about was wonderful. My mother to came in with me, had never been to the historical society in her 62 years and she enjoyed it extremely. From you, we went to pick up my aunt. We then went, to my amazement, the original family farm. And boy oh boy... part of the original house was standing :). It was wonderful. If anyone in the southern Minnesota, northern Iowa, area have a chance, stop in to the Jackson County Historical Society. It is great. Thanks for letting me share my experience with all.
