As I go to the next family with my own album they can look at it while I scan there pictures and so often they can give me names . Which I write by the pictures . Hope to get this done & edited to print it out right for a 50th wedding ann. present for my brother in law. loretta

    3. Annie in Mn It was great joy to read your story about your pictures and see where you have gone with them. Threw the internet I have met many people and had great help. I have a album mad for my grandmother in 1918 It was from a friend I think each picture was written by with the silver ink and I treasure it so. I would never ever think of taking it apart t. ( I found some of the pictures in the 2nd hand had been taken out of a album ) I scanned each page and e mailed it to my son to cut apart. I finally have learned to do it myself. I forwarded one of these pages to some one in Co. asking if he could read the hand writing . Well he came back with the name birth date and husbands name . That pictures sat for a while before it finally dawned on me where she fit into my grandmothers life . And the the pictures of my gg grandmother Alice Bosworth on some Rocks in Co. with her sister in law ( Almiria Clark ) and the date . (1918) So with the picture and the date we figure that the husbands had died and the 2 ladies probly took a train to Co. to see the son Frank Clark who had moved out there. So the story is building. Each part of this history and home my kids like it when ever I get it done Loretta in Mn

    2. SO IN 1889-1891 EUPHEMIA WAS STILL A TWEEDIE. HER DAUGHTER WAS BORN IN 1893 AND SON WILLIAM WAS BORN 1895. SO BETWEEN 1891 AND 1893 SHE MARRIED LEITZ. I TEND TO AGREE WITH YOU THAT THIS VERY WELL COULD BE THE SPELLING. I'M THINKING WILLIAM OR FRANK WOULD BE A GOOD BET. THE 1900 FEDERAL CENSUS FOR HENNEPIN HAS HER LISTED STILL AS A CLERK UNDER THE NAME OF LETIZ WHICH COULD BE SPELLED WRONG! SO WE KNOW BY 1900 SHE WAS WIDOWED AND LIVING WITH HER MOM AND DAD. AND SHE WAS WORKING AS A CLERK. FRANK AND FRED DON'T SEEM TO KNOW WHAT THEY WANT TO DO YET. :) GOSH! HOPE WE ARE ON TO SOMETHING HERE. GETTING EXCITED! THANKS AND CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN. ON HIS (WILLIAM) DEATH CERT. IT SAYS HE WAS BORN IN MINNEAPOLIS, MN, JAN 24, 1895. HE WAS THEN MARRIED TO EDNA JANE MORTON AND HAVE HIS SS#. 2. In a message dated 9/30/2006 11:26:01 PM Central Daylight Time, leichmann@iw.net writes: Also go over your pictures you have taken over these years and put in the names Loretta This is so important. I have nearly 4,000 from my mother's estate that I am scanning and getting out to family. I lucked out in that my uncle was doing the family tree and she worked with him on them and nearly 90% are ID'd. There are pics going back to 1884 in England and before, and colored photos of a painting of a family home in England painted in 1858, plus ones of a painting of another home in Australia painted in 1850 and two photos of "Aunt Elizabeth's home in Scotland" that I was lucky enough to have help from some researchers in Scotland to identify. On that one there was even verification of the approximate year the pic was taken as her husband was a building contractor and did renovations on it when they were living there. One of the researchers contacted the present owner who has also recently done some renovations and found boards with my great aunt's husband's name on them and a date. So the present owner has scanned copies of those pics and what his house looked like then and I have confirmation of which house it was and dates of when my great aunt was living there. I still have to get pics of what it looks like now. Old military photos are another challange, but worthwhile to work on. I have some postcard photos of a drummer in a military band signed just "Pvt. Jack Cooper" stating he was in India. With the help of an English cousin we were able to identify which of our John COOPERs it was. A military list id'd the uniforms for us, and we were able to find one who was in the Kent Cyclists. Then with the help of the military list we were able to trace the movements of the regiment he was in and find that he was indeed in India, what months in 1914 the unit was there and the action he saw. Then a gal who belonged to the list sent me a book published of the journals written by her father who was in the same regiment, and what it was like on those actions. It was bad! And our Jack Cooper had to drag a big base drum around with him except when they were in battle!! On one of his postcards he stated he had lost 40 pounds from doing that. It was true. We have a pic of him in England before they left for India and he was chunky then. In the pics from India he was slim as can be and looked really good. So scanning and tackling those seemingly impossible photos can be fun and rewarding and tell their own story!! He married after the 1901 census so we did not have a name for his wife or if he had any kids. On one of the postcards he mentions "Mary" and the 3 boys!! So we know his wife's name was Mary and that by 1914 they had 3 boys. So have at those pics and have lots of fun. There are lots of people out there who can help you learn all kinds of things about them. Annie in Minnesota

    3. On another one of the list I am on there is a lady that goes to 2nd hand store's and buys old pictures that have the studios name on it and a name of a person on them and then try to research them to get them back to there families. I am a nut on going to my family homes with lap top and scanner and scanning there pictures . I am trying to get a pictures album done . I have 350 pictures in it so far. Well today I went into a 2nd hand store in Luverne Mn and sat and looked at old pictures from Camby and a few from Minneapolis / St Paul area. Some from Rushford are that had names on them I bought and gave to a friend to see if her family may know some of the people in the pictures . There are pictures that said " Ida's husband " Of course I said Ida who. There was a 5 x 7 picture in a frame with no name of studio or nothing written on it. It was 4 ladies with 1 little boy in the middle of them . It had to be some ones 5 generation picture. So sad that this great pictures is lost to the family .. So as we do our researching do not forget these great pictures they are so important to our history . I have found the names of so many of my new ( Old ) pictures with putting them into my computer and then putting 2 up to compare . I get so excited when I finally figure out who it is . I also e mail them to family and say who is this . One I got 3 different answers all wrong . I did know the answer on it . Also go over your pictures you have taken over these years and put in the names Loretta

    3. Birth certificates for William and Margery -- you first have to discover exactly when and where they were born. In small little towns you can call or write to the county courthouse for the town, and they may look it up for you. But... I think they were born in Minneapolis, as William said on his World War 1 draft record, and that would be more difficult. Minneapolis is in Hennepin County. There are a lot of volunteers who might look up the information for you. Minneapolis (I think actually in St. Paul) has a huge Minnesota Historical Society with all kinds of historical records. I spent a couple of days there researching my family when I traveled to Minnesota with my daughter. -- World War 1 draft... I have a great uncle who registered while living and working in Calgary, Canada. (family was in Ohio) He had to fight in a Canadian unit, and is said to have died in France. I've been struggling to figure that one out as I can't find anything about him after his draft registration. The actual records of soldiers in WW1 have not been made public. I can look for William T in Canadian records, if you would like. --- the RAOGK volunteer is NOT ALLOWED to ask for money, except for a dollar or two for gas, photos of tombstones, photocopies, postage stamp, etc. --- directory -- I emailed a volunteer already about looking for the family in Minneapolis directories from 1892 - 1900. She hasn't gotten back to me yet. No LETIZ names at all in any directory, which leads me to believe the correct spelling is LEITZ. I have access to a couple of the Minneapolis directories on the internet through my local library system, but none for the years which might list Euphemia and husband Leitz. Here are all Leitz and Tweedies in the directories I have access to: 1882 --- No LEITZ. TWEEDIE, William, mach (machinist? ) C. M. and St. P. lives at 1815 S 7th. 1885 - 1886 ----LEITZ Frank J. sales, lives at 814 SE 6th. Fred C., cabinetmaker, 814 SE 6th. William, superintendant Northwestern Casket Co., 814 SE 6th. TWEEDIE Wm, mach. lives at 265 Cedar av. 1886 - 1887 --- LEITZ Frank J, traveling agent livest at 615 7th av SE. Fred C., emp. NW Casket Co, same address. Wm. sup NW Casket Co, same address. Wm. Jr., emp NW Casket Co, same address. TWEEDIE Mary, Miss, milliner, lives at 274 Cedar Av. William, foreman motor round house, 271 Cedar Ave [I think it should be 274..]. William, Mrs., millinery store at 274 Cedar Ave. lives at same address. 1889 - 1891 --- TWEEDIE Miss Euphemia G., clerk, lives 271 Cedar Ave. [hmm.. was it 271 or 271 Cedar where they lived and worked?]. Mrs. Marjory, milliner, 271 Cedar. Wm, engineer, 271 Cedar. LEITZ Frank J, trav agent, 626 E 15th. Frederick C, finisher 814 SE 6th. George L, same address. John F, finisher, same. Kate, domestic servant, no address. Wm., superintendent, 814 SE 6th. In the 1900 census for Minneapolis, the adult Leitz men are William and Frank, which leaves the George, Fred and John listed in the 1889 city directory as "missing". That doesn't really help narrow down which of them might have been Euphemia's husband. ------------------------------------ I see online that Minneapolis had a city directory for each year in the 1890s. Let's hope the one volunteer gets back to me. More soon, Beth

    2. Hi Beth, Looks like you were really busy on this! Thank you. Couldn't find address for funeral home for Euphemia. Libbey Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, MN Don't know where to send for William and Margery's birth certificates. Having a devil of a time searching! I have obits for Euphemia and George, they were pretty big. From The Staples (Minn) World. Euphemia was listed as working as a clerk. I wonder if it was for Northern Pacific RR as that is where George worked. Wonder how one would check that one out or if it was even possible. Didn't know William T. reg. for the draft as the story is he evaded the draft by relocating to Canada. Just above North Dakota and I believe he worked for the RR there. I know my Aunt Marjorie and Uncle Lynn were born in Canada. My grandmother left him and had my mother Bebe prematurely in Fargo. Then got back together with him and had Uncle Don in MN. He cheated on her! Bad boy. Never met the man, but know at one time my mother tried to find him. She is the only child left and is 87 years old and in mid stages of Alzheimer's. Did go to RAOGK to look for a volunteer and he was way more interested in seeing if I was willing to pay him. I don't mind reimbursing for expenses and usually would offer anyone who did things for me. Just kind of turned me off. I asked for directory look up and he was giving me the whole script. I do see that there aren't many volunteers there. Don't know if it's just for the summer or they got over whelmed with look ups. I forgot about that site as I used it once before. As I recall got wonderful information. Few years ago. Was wondering about a directory look up for Euphemia Letiz prior to 1892 and up to 1895 when the children were being born hoping to find out where she was and what name she was using. Can it be looked up under Tweedie and Letiz? Where do you find them? 3. Dear Minnesota Friends, Yes, it appears that the General Land Office Record site of the Bureau of Land Management website is offline today. And before anyone gets his/her hair on fire about this: I worked for the federal government, Department of the Army, for 20 years at West Point (yes, the Military Academy). And year by year, we lost employees because there wasn't enough money, hiring freezes, attrition, etc. So the rest of us were expected to do more and more work, but we didn't get anything like overtime or compensatory time or bonuses because it wasn't authorized. The point of my diatribe is that I suspect the the BLM is under the same hammer. So please understand that they are doing the best they can with what they've got. 3. I *think* someone asked recently what use the BLM land records were to genealogical researching. I was too tired to respond at the time and have already deleted that message. But I will try to give a short run down of it now. The land records state which piece of property is being purchased, by whom, and on what date the transaction occurred. The date may be prior to statehood, if your family was among the early settlers. The property description lets you figure out exactly where they owned land (and probably lived) in a particular township. People usually attended church and are buried very near their property - often within just a few short miles. Those early church records can be an absolute gold mine and I encourage everyone to do their best in finding those for their own family research. Dick has a *great* description of land records and township layouts on his Becker Co. pages: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnbecker/land.htm I put some links to various sites for the Federal Township and Range system on the cemeteries page for Faribault County (not to be confused with Faribault city in Rice Co.): http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnfariba/cemeteries/fcemeteries.html Uh, oh. My links for the "Map of meridians & base lines from the BLM web server" are down apparently. Probably because they seem to be having web server difficulties today.
