Is it at the Historical Society or one of the other State Bldgs. Virginia Best place is the Historical Society. You can make a copy for the cost of the copy machine as long as you don't need a certified copy. This is also privided you are talking about a death after 1900. Before that time you have to go to the county level or check for the random acts kindness people. For photos of tombstones I have found the best place is the _www.findagrave.com_ (http://www.findagrave.com) website. I take photos from cemeteries near me for people from there. If the person is not already on the site and you know for sure where they are buried you can enter their info and then try for a request for a photo. Usually someone will take one for you. Beth, I started with the information my father-in-law gave me which was his parent's name and the fact that his mother was born in Bellville, IL. He said that his dad's family came from Winona so I followed that lead and found the Francis and Elizabeth (Hart) Liebe in Winona in the 1880 census with some help from some nice people. I followed them through 1920 when Elizabeth was still living. (Not to be too confusing but both of his grandfathers were named Francis and both grandmothers were named Elizabeth!!) Next, I decided to check with the Montanta list and someone found Ida Jeffery living in a boarding house in Silver Bow, Montana in the 1900 census. In 1902 they found James E. Liebe (her future husband) working in Butte, MT for the NP railroad. I e-mail Butte, and they had a marriage certificate which I now have. This confirmed the names of the parents of both and the fact that Ida was born in Belleville, IL and gave me her mother's name of Elizabeth Rogers. I already had the name Francis Jeffery whom she married (Ida's parents). On the 1910 census for St. Paul, I found them in Ramsey Co., St. Paul, MN and Francis Jeffery was living with them on Selby Avenue. The thing that is so odd is that Ida has given several years for her birth. On the marriage license she said she was 26 (1902) and then in 1910 she said she was 26. My father-in-law is not really sure when she was born and knows nothing about her background except what I've told you. I sent a letter to St. Clair Co., IL and they couldn't find a birth record for her but apparently at that time you didn't have to register a birth. Ida is buried in St. Paul but my father-in-law gave the information when she died so it may not be correct. Her father, Francis Jeffery, is buried at Oakland Cemetery in St. Paul and I've ordered his death certificate tonight. Francis and Elizabeth Liebe are buried out on Larpenteur and I can't remember the cemetery name. What I am trying to find is: When did Francis Jeffery come to the US from England When did he marry Elizabeth Rogers and when did she die When was Ida May Jeffery born (actually)!! Even her Soc. Sec. information doesn't seem correct when I looked it up on line. I hope I haven't confused everyone. I really would like to get the information for him as quickly as possible. Thanks to all of the nice people that have been helping. Any advice is appreciated. I have found important family information in old newspaper microfilms, when all else has failed. I accessed Minnesota ones at both a library in Wabasha, and at the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul. I routinely order newspaper microfilms from North and South Dakota, for use in my local library, for a nominal fee. If you don't live near St. Paul, you might be able to order the films through the Historical Society via interlibrary loan. Has anyone on the list sent for microfilmed MN newspapers, and can you explain how to go about it? Beth

That's definitely the case - those fields weren't indexed for the earlier years, but they are likely to be on the death certificate. Mary -----Original Message----- N/A doesn't always mean there is no birth information on the record. Only that for one of several reasons it was not transcribed. I have had a few just like that and was glad I wrote for the record anyway. Just a thought. Sandy
He has been to the cemetery of his parents and talked to the Oakland Cemetery in St. Paul where her father is buried. He know which cemeteries they were in. But like I mentioned, he wasn't sure of his mother's age so it may be wrong at the cemetery. She died in 1969 and he gave the information to the funeral home. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeanine Reckinger" <jreck@ecenet.com> To: <minnesota@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 09, 2006 7:05 PM Subject: Re: [MINNESOTA] Death Index -Francis Jeffery >I might strongly recommend that you find the death certificate for his > PARENT then before you determine whether you have the correct grandparent. > Has he given you any info that he remembers himself? he would not ever > have > known them, but did he ever visit their grave? I might strongly recommend that you find the death certificate for his PARENT then before you determine whether you have the correct grandparent. Has he given you any info that he remembers himself? he would not ever have known them, but did he ever visit their grave? Somewhere in his parent's things might have been information of the church that buried the grandfather . . . that could be a good lead if you have any idea of what denomination or town or church . . . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Virginia Patricelli" <virgpat@usfamily.net> To: <minnesota@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 09, 2006 6:46 PM Subject: Re: [MINNESOTA] Death Index -Francis Jeffery >I know it is because I have the license and certificate of marriage naming > the parents of Francis and Elizabeth Rogers Jeffery.
