Hi Laurie, Just read your message to the list and would like a lookup if I may.........First off, I do not know where my grandmother came from in Norway; but I thought maybe we might be lucky! Her name was Ingeborg Anderson or datter; she arrived in NY port April 21? 24? 1884. I have no idea if she travelled anywhere other than to Minneapolis where she met and married my grandfather, also from Norway. II'd very grateful if you will take a look for her in your books and let me know. You can subscribe to the magazine above. I also believe they will also send you an index for back issues that are available for abour $8/$10 A well known Genealogist named Larry O. Jensen is the Editor. Write to German Genealogical Digest, 245 North Vine #106, Salt Lake City Utah 84103-1953. For example Volume 11--#1--1st Quarter 1986 has article Pommern Immigration and Emigration. In Volume 11--$4--4th quarter of 1886 features Pommern i Print and Church and Civil Records in Pommern by Laraine Ferguson, Asst. My copies are old and I see no e-mail address or web site, but this is 2002. So much is available. When most of mine was done, I did it through letters, and the hard way. Have fun, and Happy Hunting. I have already given the Immigrant Gen. Society and Pommerscher Verein Freistadt, but here are a couple more for now--to keep you busy. No Pommern likes to see anyone rest or relax, according to my ancestry. Heinz Radde: maps, history, culture http://members.tripod.com/~radde/ Gunthard Stube: villages kreis, maps http://hinterpommern.de/ Germany GenWeb Page http:// www.rootsweb.com/~wggerman/index.htm (Just follow the black yellow and red lines and find your roots) Source of links to Pomeranian research: http://feefhs.org Pommern-L Surname List includes village and emigration data: http://hinterpommern.de/Genealogie/Foren/Pommern-L/surnames.htm Keep in mind that Hinter Pommern is now part of Poland and Vo Pommern, west of the Oder River became East Germany, now once again, part of the German Empire. When war was coming, many of the church records were taken to the Archives in Greifswald. Today, many of them have been photographed by the Mormon Church and available at a Family History Center of that church in your own area. When I first saw the marriage record of my great grandparents in Sabes, Kries Pyritz and then my grandfather's christening record in 1865 records, at their library, I cried! Also remember Ray Karels, at [email protected] He grew up near Rosen and Bellingham in Lac qui Parle County in Minnesota. During church, he would look around and wonder how these people got so bonded. Well, many were from the same area--Kreis Schlochau and other counties nearby, They had been bonded in family for centuries. My best friend, a Kanthak and I used to call ourselves cousins in Grade School. In doing research of Kreis Schlochau, we found Kanthak/Mix marriages. Who knows? My sister in law's mother was born less than ten American miles away from my great grandfather. There was an age gap, but they all ended up in Minnesota. I ain't done yet, unless you want me to stop. This is name of a great book put out by another Pommern Society in Wisconsin. It was published by Pommerscher Verein Freistadt. Address is PO Box 204, Germantown. WI 53022. Their web site is http://www.execpc.com/~pommern/ Their E-Mail is [email protected] You can join and subscribe to their Newsletter, too--and would encourage you to do so. You can order other books and maps from them, too. Maps are very important for the research here--because if you don't know where to look for, you will never know what to look for. History has made many changes in the Pomeranian Research. Pomerania (Pommern in German) was a province in north central Germany. It was a low, rolling land, very similar to eastern Wisconsin, along the Baltic Sea. It had long sandy beaches with great dunes. Over a third of the 2.3 million people there are engaged in farming. The capital of Old Pommern was Stettin. For you who have AOL Search Engine or Find, you can go in with these words and find other sites. Germany and Kries Pyritz or ???? and genealogy. Sometimes Poland will work too. I will give some web site in my next message--when I get going too fast, stop me. In my Norwegian LIneage, I went much farther back, but in my Pommern Lineages, I was awed with the history and geography. There are other search engines, too. Ardell

Looking for my grandmother and mother in Minneapolis area around 1908. In the Durant Roll of 1908, Clara Belle Wolfe Joyce was listed as a member of the Grand Traverse Bay Ottawa Indians, but it was noted that she lived in Minneapolis with her daughers, Dorothy Arvilla Joyce and Lucille Mary Jane Joyce. Haven;t been able to find them until 1920 in Grand Rapids Mi. Her sister, Mary Helen Wolfe was listed as living in Minneapolis at same time. Don;t know if they were living together. Clara Belle was approx 35, and Lucille was 5-8. Clara could have been on assignment for a newspaper, as she was a newspaper reporter in Michigan. I hope someone can help me with this! Thanks in advance for any info. Janet

Vo-Pommern became East Germany after the war, and Hinter Pommern became a part of Poland along the Baltic Sea. The Oder River divided the two Pommerns. Soon I will send some web sites for this area, as there are many Pommerns in Minnnesota. There is a young man in Nevada, who has one of the largest data bases for Pommern, especially the County of Schlochou. I think he still helps people and his address is ([email protected])--if you contact, let me know if it still works. His name is Ray Karels. Ardell

Hi all, My grandparents lived in northern Minnesota, just north of Gully (Polk County), so I have been researching that area for quite a few years. I am researching Andersons, Johnsons, and Bensons. On a trip to that area I came across the Parish book which lists all the births, deaths, confirmations, etc.) for the Oak Grove Norwegian Lutheran Church(1899 - late 1940's). The book was being cared for by one of the families who belonged to that Church when it was still active, so it is not very readily available to most people. I xeroxed the Parish book records and a directory of who is buried where in Oak Grove Cemetary...if anyone has a relative who was (or might have been) buried there and wants me to check these records , feel free to email me. This church was in the country, about 10 miles north of Gully and then a few miles East..I'm not sure if it was in Clearwater or Polk County. If not Polk County then very close to it...maybe someone on this List is from the area and knows which county. The Church is no longer standing (burned down) but the cemetary is still there and is cared for by a local family. I also have a copy of the Gully-Trail Diamond Jubilee book which has a little of the history of each of these towns and surrounding areas,as well as families who settled there (and old photos also) . If anyone needs a lookup in this resource I'd be glad to do so. Janet
Ardell: Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO Much for the information!!!!!!!!! I really do appreciate it! And I will go to the website you stated and who knows... I may just find more relatives... Thanks for your help! Brenda C ______________________________________________________________________________ ____ Esten Hugdal was my gguncle from Sor Trondelag, Norway. He and his wife emigrated to Wisconsin in 1888. The family lived in the Soknedal/Storen area, south of Trondheim. Nord Trondelag and Sor Trondelag totally embrace Trondheim in Central Norway. In Norway. They have Farm and Family History Books called Bygdeboks. Many of us have some of these. As yet, I have not found Olina Hugdal Oien, Bertha Hugdal Moen or Olaf Hugdahl, but I am searching. It is made up on "Tronders" in both of the Trondelag areas above and people related to Trondelag fylkes (counties) and also from other parts of Norway. Seeking information on the descendants of Ann Carolyn and Fred Plummer. Ann Carolyn Moxness was born in Cumberland, Barron Co. WI in 1898, died 1968 in Minneapolis. She married Fred Randall Plummer June 30 1923, in Minneapolis. The following information is a bit uncertain: They had two sons, Richard and Timothy, and a daughter Nancy. Richard was possibly born around 1927/28. Timothy married Patricia. They had two daughters, Roberta, born ca 1956 and Linda, born ca 1958. Nancy died young in a boating accident. Greatful for any information. Birger Moksnes Stjordal, Norway
