Sandie, thanks for the suggestion. The GNIS site does list townships, so I don't think that it is the name of a township. There is a reference to Stone's Corner in Bayfield Co., WI that seems to be a reference to a farm location, so I will need to look into that idea. Thanks Again. Its possible that Stones corner is the name of a property or farm and not specifically a town name. It also could be a township name. Jean, thanks for the reply. I checked the USGS site and found Stones Corner in Maine, Oklahoma, and Virginia, but not Wisconsin or Minnesota. There was a Stones Corner School listed in McHenry Co., IL that I am checking into. The reference to Stones Corner, Minn. was in a letter about the family written by a now deceased cousin. No one else in the family that I have contact with has ever heard of it. Thanks again. Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: Jean R. I was just told that my gr gr grandfather resided in Stones Corner, Minn. in 1862. I checked the USGS GNIS mapping site and could not find any place by that name or anything close. They came from Wisconsin and went to Wabasha Co., MN after a short while. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Jim

It isn't online that I know of. But I think you can borrow the microfilm from the MN History Center. http://www.mnhs.org Margie wrote: > Does anyone know if the MN State Census is on line either free or pay? > > TIA > > Margie - WA > > ==== MINNESOTA Mailing List ==== > Want to unsubscribe from the Minnesota-L list (Single message mode)? Should have said the MN State Census for 1885. Margie - WA
Does anyone know if the MN State Census is on line either free or pay? TIA Margie - WA
I would like to thank everyone who responded to my question. I now have enough reading to keep me, and my phone line, busy for several days. ;-) The hard part now comes in trying to find some proof that my family was in fact in the area. I am searching for Samuel COOKE, his wife Mary, and I think four children under the age of six in 1862. I have found them in Columbia Co., WI through 1856 and then in Wabasha Co., MN by 1864. Looks like I need the 1860 Brown Co., MN census as a place to start. Are there any 1860 census indexes available? Again, thanks to everyone. Hi Jim, Here are some links I found by typing "New Ulm Sioux uprising" (without the quotation marks) into Google. There were 223 returns by Google so you can see I've only sent a mere few. I just learned that my gr gr grandfather and family may have been in the New Ulm area at the time of the 1862 Sioux uprising. Can anyone suggest some on-line sites with history and stories of this event? Thanks. Jim
Hi everyone- I came across this old book at a flea market here in Texas. It is Neill's History of Minnesota pub in 1878. It is a wonderful book with a ton of info. I bought it for $125 and that is all I am asking for it. I don't have any family here but I figured this is a real treasure and someone will love this book. Please email me or post to this message if you want it! Thanks so much [email protected] Amanda

Hello Listers, I'm hoping someone will be able to point me in some direction regarding my search for this family...they were my g-g grandparents. Lucinda Kelan m. Nathan Miller- date, location unknown Census records indicate Lucinda Kelan Miller was born somewhere in WI around 1850. Nathan was born somewhere in NY around 1834. **The couple's first child was born somewhere in MINNESOTA- date approx. 1866, location unknown: **Frank C. Miller Second child born to this couple was: Charles D. Miller, born in Green Lake Co. WI around 1868 Putting 2 + 2 together, I surmise that Nathan and Lucinda met and married in Minnesota. They had baby #1 when Lucinda was only 16 years old or so. There must have been a reason to move from Minnesota to Wisconsin when baby #2 was on the way. I would guess that since Lucinda was born in WI, her family must've lived somewhere near Green Lake / Green Lake Co. for them to end up there. Has anyone run across any Kelans or Millers in MINNESOTA research? Does anyone have any ideas for me to find help with my search? Thanks in advance to all who respond....
