MeLani, O.K. I found the land records on the BLM web site. N½NW 3/ 18-N 4-E No 4th PM - 1831 MN/WI WI Adams 2 4/ 18-N 4-E No 4th PM - 1831 MN/WI WI Adams, Juneau It looks like the land spans two counties, Adams and Juneau. The land is located in Sections 3 and 4 in Township 18 North, Range 4 East of the 4th Prime Meridian. See the map at http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/maps/docs/counties/adams.pdf If click on the + to set the view scale at 400% you can see a lot of detail. Locate the town of Adams in the center of the page. You will see the county name "Adams" to the right of the town of Adams. Above that is the name of the town of Friendship. The word "Friendship" spans Sections 3 and 4 where the land is located. I found a copy of a Homestead certificate for my ggrandfather. How can I find the approximate location of this plot of land (town or county)? The information given states the 'north half of northwest quarter of section three .......', etc. Thanks, MeLani
What is the rest of the location? If it has a township, range and meridian, it could possibly be in Alberta or Saskatchewan. Hi All - a newbie here How would I find out about divorces circa 1900? I have a suspicion and that is all, but wondered if there was some lists posted, etc. Also, is there somewhere on the internet a reference guide as to the abbreviated versions of the individual State's names. I get confused (especially with the M ones). There are so many States!
For those with Norwegian roots and you're not aware, the Norway census for 1865, (some 1875) and 1900 are online at: " http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar" But, they also have some information for some early Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa births/baptism and confirmation: DP 15.02.2001 IA: Worth Co, baptisms 1853-1881 DP 04.10.2001 Births in Mt. Morris Luth., Waushara Co., WI 1853- DP 22.03.2001 IA: Chickasaw co., baptisms 1857-1876 DP 06.07.2000 MN: Fillmore Co, baptisms 1854-1883 DP 06.03.2001 MN: Faribault Co, baptisms 1859-1889 DP 06.12.2000 MN: Fillmore Co, confirmations 1860-1885 DP 06.03.2001 IA: Winnebago Co. baptisms 1864-1891 DP 06.03.2001 IA: Winnebago Co. confirmations 1868-1890 DP 04.10.2001 Births in Odin Lutheran, Watonwan Co., MN 1873-91

To all RESEARCHERS & GENEALOGISTS:- A special invitation was issued on the weekend for new subscribers to the Canada Census Campaign mail list -- started June 14, 1999. Prior to last weekend, there were about 324 subscribers -- many more now and still subscribing! The CENSUS list, as we call it, is a forum for discussion relating to the release of census records -- there is a committee and many Friends. We have worked very hard since March 1999 -- and with important announcement(s) coming, we hope all want to hear all the news! [email protected] Only one word subscribe [However, if you are not afraid of wearing out the DELETE key, you may change the D to L -- Digest is better for busy people!] There will be a very special announcement on Monday morning, which will include TV and other coverage. We invite you to be part of this exciting time -- but do not forget, PETITIONS are still needed for both House of Commons and the Senate -- Non-Residents are invited -- we know many have Canadian roots -- they may also write to politicians. Let's aim for a record subscribership! Gordon Watts is administrator of this list -- but please remember, NO LOOKUPS -- we do not have time to do this -- yet many help privately - at least I do! Let's keep Gordon Watts busy!! To answer one question:- Postings will still be done to all present lists which accept census postings - by Gordon and myself. Muriel M. Hello, My name is Jesse Clarke. I am researching the SCHAD family that settled in Cottonwood & Jackson Counties, MN. My grandfather's cousin, a Mrs. Mary (Schaffer) SCHRIEBER, passed away in 1991 in Mower Co. She was married to Ed Schrieber and the couple had two children to my knowledge. Their names were/are Alfred & Eunice. If you or someone you know has information on any of these people, or information on any of these people, PLEASE contact me!! Also, if you would be willing to look up Mary's obituary, I would be most appreciative. Most of my information is at http://www.jrclarke.com/schad Thank you & regards! Dear Trønderlag of America Member, I am the chairman of the Trønderlag of America membership committee. My goal for 2003 is to double our membership! This may seem to be unrealistic, but if each member would find just one new member, we could make this happen! Each year we lose from 12 to 24 members from the Trønderlag. So each year we need to find 2 members per month just to stay at the same level. To help you with your recruiting, we have various things that can help you when you talk to your friends and relatives about joining the Trønderlag of America. You could tell them about the web site at www.tronderlag.org which our president has created. If you have not visited the site, please do. It is beautiful. We have an on line membership application at that web site. The membership fees are as follows: $10 for 1 year, $18 for 2 years, and $25 for 3 years. You might ask members of your church to become members. You might ask members of the Sons of Norway to become members. We also have a pamphlet for prospective members which describes the lag. If you would like a copy of this pamphlet, just drop me an email. [email protected] Or I could send it directly to the prospective member -- just send me their name and address. Please help me reach my goal for 2003. Thank you! Terry Brende [email protected]
Hi all I am new to this list and to family history and I would appreciate any help or advice about a family member who emigrated from the UK to the US around 1920 - Arthur SEWELL. I have located him on the Ellis-Island site as entering the US on February 8th 1920, destination Appleton, Minn to stay with friend Mrs BENSON. Arthur was born in Leicester, England around 1902. He stayed in the US for around 20 years and worked for a company called Tecalemit?, married a French woman (name unknown) and retuned to the UK and became a Brigadier in the British Army. I would appreciate any help or advice on SEWELL / BENSON records in the 1920 / 1930 census or marriage records. Also was Tecalemit a company in or around Appleton in the 1920s? I am hoping someone could look up a marriage of Raymond Gerald Taylor to Agnes Sylvia Reilly probably around about 1932 give or take a couple years either way. We think it was around the Minneapolis area but were not for sure. What I need is Raymond's parents names and if it has on the record his exact birthdate and where. I also need the exact date of marriage.
