    3. Claire, You might want to contact the historical societies and /or genealogical societies in these counties. If nothing else, they may be able to tell you where to find the information you seek and direct you to it. 2. There are many places in Minnesota to search. If you contact the Hennepin County Adult Corrections facility of Minnesota you may get a clerk to give you some information. Normally the only information that can be given is the indate, outdate and what the crime happened to be. That is public information. There are many counties in Minnesota so you have a lot of checking to do. _http://www.courts.state.mn.us/districts/fourth/Default.htm_ (http://www.courts.state.mn.us/districts/fourth/Default.htm) _http://www.co.hennepin.mn.us_ (http://www.co.hennepin.mn.us) _http://www.Hennepin.us_ (http://www.Hennepin.us) I used to be a prison guard at Hennepin County Adult Corrections. There were criminals sent there for charges from DWI to murder and rape. Just depends on how good a lawyer you have. Also the sentence can be anything from 30 days to 2 years. 3. This post interested me as well. I also have someone in my family tree that I would like to locate the records for. The arrest took place in Duluth in 1938. I have all the personal info on the person, ie. birth date, name, address, etc. It was a federal offense and eventually resulted in hospitalization at St. Peter Hospital. I have tried in the past to find out how to get hospital records as well as a trial transcript or arrest record or what ever public documents may be available. I have looked at the two Web sites recommended below, but either I don't know what I'm doing or I can't figure out how to go about this. If anyone can assist me further, I would appreciate the effort. I live a great distance from MN, so personal research is out of the question. In the past, I have had help from several kind list members, but still have too many missing links. Thanks in advance, Jane on 7/7/05 2:56 AM, Ron Bestrom at rbestrom@earthlink.net wrote: >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "Shelia Bachelder" <webachel@wolf.co.net> >> >> ...How do I find a former criminal who served prison time within the state >> of Minnesota? 1. German translation -update
    2. Hello list; First of all I want to thank everyone that has shown an interest in my request for the translation of the forward of a book I purchased at a thrift store. I have sent the two pages to a couple of people on the list that wanted to have a go at translating it and am awaiting what they are able to discipher. What I have been able to make out on my own from the first page inside the cover is that it was printed by the Northwestern Publishing House in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I did a google on this company and it appears that they produce Luthern materials. On further examination, I found two pages stuck together and carefully separated them. On one page is handwritten what appears to be the name of the owner of the book, probably a child by the name of Erma Rantherm or Ranthum and Campbellsport which I had no idea where or what that was until I looked that up and found it to be a town in Fond Du Lac County Wisconsin. I was previously been able to pick out the year 1899 and 1900 from what was written and Minnesota and Wisconsin, but with the information of the child's name, and town in Wisconsin, I have probably posted this to the wrong list and I hope you will forgive me. I just wanted to give you an update and a thank you. I've checked the census for 1900 and 1910 and can't find any families with the same last name. Charlotte Charlotte in sunny So. CA

    3. Nature That's the very obit, from the Social Security death Index I found which led me to order his obit from Fargo. He's the only one that pops up when plugging in his name for a search in the Social Security Death Index, however, when plugging in his name for Minnesota's Death Index, I do find a totally different Leroy Lacroix. The problem I have is that in the obit I did send for from Fargo, ND and received shows no mention of a previous wife and a different wife than who I'm looking for. Then again, they may not have been married (the first wife) all before 1952. They had three children which were taken away by Social Services from the mother shortly after Mr. Lacroix left her alone with all three in Ramsey County. That's my problem. I'm trying to find out if he was imprisoned during this time in question, if she visited him at any time before the removal of the children and what time frame he served in prison will help narrow my time window down. The first woman whom he might or might not of been married to is still alive. Her mental condition prevents questions over this matter to be answered clearly. I have to fit time in and schedule a visit to Ramsey County to look for a marriage license and maybe in Hennepin County too. The couple moved around a bit but from source material, they were predominantly located in Ramsey. That is the update. Thank you, Shelia Bachelder webachel@wolf.co.net

(I'm thinking that the family of this > man may be attempting to hide information from you? > How do I access criminal records if I don't know where he served his > prison time? I do not know where he was arrested or for what reason he > served his time? > First, I question why you are attempting to find his criminal or prison records? Are you trying to find his arrest and conviction records at the local District Court level? Arrest information, specifically that found within the records of the database through the National Crime Information System (NCIC) is for official use only, as it is not specifically backed by prosecutive information. But, criminal convictions are public record ,as are sentences. With two marriages and children, someone would have his basic information, who he was, and specifically, where he was when convicted of any crime where there was incarceration. Before you can access any prison records, you first MUST be able to fully identify the person that you are seeking. This includes date of birth, place of birth, probably where they lived at the time of arrest and conviction. The when and where of the arrest and conviction would be the first key. The local district court would have the trial records. But, born circa 1922-1930, guessing conviction/imprisonment was at ages of 18-30, he 'may' have been imprisoned circa 1940 and 1960. Then, with the marriage after 1955, we're probably looking at between 1940 and 1955? We are also looking at the conviction(s)...for what? and how many different convictions? If it was a single felony, he could have only served for one year...or many more, or on many separate convictions. He could have been imprisoned at different places...for the same conviction. He could have served locally for a misdemeanor, a crime of up to a year imprisonment. So, you need to first find his vital information. You really can't find anything without that. You should be able to find some info with the two woman he was married...or their families. Then, go to the local District Courts for conviction and sentencing information. Go to the Minnesota State Department of Corrections http://www.corr.state.mn.us/. But, he could have been on a federal conviction, serving time in Minnesota. Then, the Federal Bureau of Prisons may have the info: http://www.bop.gov/inmate_locator/inmates_b4_1982.jsp . Ron Bestrom

    3. Nature I need guidance with this one. How do I find a former criminal who served prison time within the state of Minnesota? From what I've learned, he served his prison time 'here' in Minnesota. He was born bet. 1922 & 1930. Where do I go to find his prison record? He passed away sometime in the late 70's or early 80's "I think in a neighboring state". I sent for an obituary I thought was his. I'm not sure it is him. I'm looking into another side of the story to see what I can find and either rule this obit in or out concerning a couple of given details as the man I'm looking for. Lacroix, Leroy had children with a woman who is still alive however, her mental state of mind leaves me with no answers from her. The obit lists another woman he married after 1955 and stayed married to until his passing. How do I access criminal records if I don't know where he served his prison time? I do not know where he was arrested or for what reason he served his time? Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. 3. Listers, Many thanks for the replies on Charles Blakeslee. I have given your replies to my brother and he says they will be really helpful. A little backround for every one. He has been looking for Charles via various routes since 1993. Our Uncle Paul was killed February 28, 1945 near Niedegan, Germany. He was 21 years old and the youngest of 14 children. He was the only one of the brothers' killed or injured. My brother is writing up his life for the family. He wanted to find someone who could tell him about Paul's life in Europe before he was killed. Charles we were told was his best friend. HELEN L in PGH

    1. ARMSTRONGs in Minnesota
    2. Richard Hardwick
    3. Hello I am new to your list. I am looking for the following Gen 1 Francis ARMSTRONG (b about 1750 in Penn?; died in Minn?)=Nancy/Mary/Ann HUTTON (same?) These folks may have wound up in Minnesota after a stay in Nova Scotia. Gen 2 George ARMSTRONG=Mary CREIGHTON ( b and d in Nova Scotia) Gen 3 Edward ARMSTRONG=Sarah LEWIS (traveled to Minn to have Mary Jane) Gen 4 Mary Jane ARMSTRONG (b in Minn for sure; d in Mass for sure) Gen 1 Francis ARMSTRONG=Nancy/Mary/Ann HUTTON Gen 2 Francis ARMSTRONG=Mary Maria BARNES? (NS records say he "went abroad" to Minn? Died there? Gen 3 Charles Ansley ARMSTRONG=Sybil CHUTE (died in Raymond, Minn for sure; had family in Minn for sure) In Gen 3 Sarah LEWIS' obit, it says she was born in England and her parents emigrated to the "American West" when she was 4 (1839.) Could the "American West" mean Minnesota? Trying to establish a history in Minnesota with these folks. Conjecture has it that Gen 1 Francis ARMSTRONG was a Loyalist from Pennsylvania. And that he wound up on the 1784 Digby (Nova Scotia) Muster Rolls. We know nothing about where Gen 1 Francis died. Maybe Minn? Gen 2 Francis "went abroad" and was "not traced" according to Nova Scotia records. However, we think he may have married Maria BARNES and had 6 children in Nova Scotia. One of those children, Charles Ansley ARMSTRONG (b Nova Scotia) died in Raymond, Minnesota in 1904. We are thinking that Gen 2 Francis may have also died in Minnesota as well as Gen 1 Francis and wife HUTTON. We think this Gen 2 Francis born about 1790 in Nova Scotia. Also, Gen 2 George ARMSTRONG married Mary CREIGHTON. These folks born, married and died in Nova Scotia. However, their son Gen 3 Edward married Sarah LEWIS (see above,) whose parents emigrated to "American West" (could this be Minnesota?) about 1839. Edward and Sarah had several children, all born in Nova Scotia, except for Mary Jane, who was born in Bear Valley, Minnesota about 1859. We thinks that Gen 3 Edward and Gen 3 Charles Ansley (1st cousins) may have gone to Minnesota together to visit father/uncle. We think that Edward was a temporary resident and Charles Ansley was a permanent one. Does anyone have any info that can substantiate the above? Thank you Richard Hardwick Richard Hardwick (Researching direct lines in Nova Scotia and New England - HARDWICK, ARMSTRONG, BARTEAUX, SPURR, HENDERSON, CREIGHTON) RiHardwick@comcast.net

    3. Got so excited when I saw the Johnsons . I have a friend who lives in Wis. who has done a lot of searching for me, she has asked a favor of me. I live in Nobles county Mn. and she wants me to find her Great uncle. Olof Fredrik Johnson b. Dec. 18, 1857 in Varmland, Vase, Sweden d. ? married: 1887 one month before immigrating to US Spouse: Charlotta Andersdotter b. Sept. 18, 1861 in Varmland, Vase, Sweden d. ? child:  Carl Oscar Johnson b. Sept. 12, 1885 in Varmland, Vase, Sweden   Immigration I did find on Ancestry under last name Johannesson, Olaf. Arrived in New York the 28th of Oct in 1887 with wife and son, on the ship Britannic.   My Mom said he was supposed to go to Worthington, Nobles County, MN to farm. There are so many Olaf/Olof Johnson's in the death index of MN with not a lot of information online as far as birth years go. So it is hard to track down even a death date. His wife Charlotte/Charlotta, there are several possibilities for her also. My Mom's cousin's Minnie and Nellie Johnson had visited their uncle Olof in MN in the 1920's so we know he was there, but where?? Loretta
