    3. Barb Fred, we always knew him as Doc, was a great football player in his college days. He lettered at Illinois, Chicago, Michigan and I think Michigan State. He was a heavy smoker (Pall Malls) and I was always fascinated watching the ash grow and grow. The cig never left his lips and It never seemed to fall off until Doc put the stub down in the ash tray. Doc was what you call "rotund". His favorite place was a couch on the enclosed front porch of his home on Ruddiman in N.M. You'd see him lying there with that ever present cig dangling from his lips. He was an avid supporter of all sports and he would tape you up and treat all kinds of injuries received in whatever the game was. AND he never charged any of us a penny! My best memory of Doc, other than the fact he always tipped me when I was his paperboy, was the fact he always took one football player to Michigan State games if they had had a good game on Friday night. I was lucky enough to get to two games because of that. It was also great to ride in that big Buick of his. Doc and Margaret were childless. May they both rest in peace.
