Mr. Berghuis was a prominent celery farmer of this city. Mr. Berghuis was born in this city February 24, 1868 and has lived in this city all of his life. He leaves one son, John Berghuis at home and six daughters, Mrs. S.W. Bos, of Muskegon, and Mattie, Bertha, Mary, Bessie and Sarah all at home. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at the residence at 2:00 o'clock. The Rev. John Luxen, pastor of the First Reformed Church will officiate and interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Information donated by: William & Barbara Hill BURGESS, Alyda (Mrs.) Havenga Obituary Muskegon Chronicle, Muskegon, Michigan Tuesday, July 7, 1942 page 12 Mrs. Alyda Burgess, 71 years old, 921 Wood St., died early today at her home after a prolonged illness. Formerly Alyda B. Havenga, she was born January 7, 1871, in the Netherlands. She came to this country 59 years ago and took up residence in Muskegon where she had resided since. She was married to John H. Burgess in Muskegon October 12, 1887. Mr. Burgess died 26 years ago. Mrs. Burgess was a member of the First Reformed church and the Missionary Society. Surviving are one son, John Burgess of Muskegon; six daughters, Mrs. Sidney Bos, Mrs. John Kooi, Miss Shirley Burgess, Mrs. Douglas Scholten, Mrs. Matthew VanderPloeg and Mrs. Cornelius Vos all of Muskegon; one sister, Mrs. Dena Gardner of Muskegon; 20 grandchildren; and on great grandchild.
