EFFIE BOWER Mrs. Effie Bower, 68, of Spring Lake, a life resident of the area and active member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, died Saturday at her home after a long illness. April 13, 1970, page 32:5 BOWER, MRS EFFIE 17659 North Shore Drive Spring Lake Mrs. Effie Bower, 68 years, entered into rest Saturday afternoon at her residence after an extended illness. The funeral rites for Mrs. Bower will be Tuesday, 2 p.m. in Immanuel Christian Reformed Church (Fourth at Mason) with her Pastor, The Rev. Mr. Roy Boeskool, officiating. Mrs. Bower will be laid to rest in Oakwood. The family will receive relatives and friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Achterhoff Mortuary. In state at the church from 12 p.m. until the time of service. A native of Muskegon, Mrs. Bower was born Effie Burgess, October 4, 1901. She married Matthew VanderPloeg who preceded her in death, April 1943. She joined William Bower in marriage, October, 1951. She was an active member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, member of the Ladies Aid Society; former member of the Friendship Guild of the Church Survivors. Dear wife of William, at home. Beloved mother of Max S. VanderPloeg, a businessman in St. Petersburg,! Fla.; Herman M. VanderPloeg, Jenison, Mich.; Allan E. VanderPloeg, a Whitehall and Muskegon Attorney at Law; Jack R. VanderPloeg of Norton Shores. Beloved sister of Mrs. Sidney (Fannie) Bos; Mrs. John (Mattie) Kooi; Mrs. Mary Scholten; Mrs. Cornelius (Sarah) Voss, all of Muskegon. Thirteen grandchildren.
