My father, Donald Reid is the only son of Florence Hanley, daughter of Sharland Hanley, brother of Sarah. After leaving Dublin he worked for William Heap selling the new flush systems. He had studied classical Greek, so as he had a base for learning modern Greek he specialised in selling to Greek immigrants. In June 2003 I contacted Lesley Whiteside, the Archivist ([email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) ) at The Kings Hospital (Bluecoats School) where John Hanl(e)y had worked. She has written a book which contains some references to him, which I tried to order but it hasn't arrived yet. I must will chase that up.
