My great grandmother was Boudewina Kok from Halfweg or Zaandam near Amsterdam. She married Ahlrich Recker there in 1891 and they immigrated to Chicago in 1899. Her father's name was Willem and Willem died in Chicago in 1901. We think that Willem immigrated as a widower with Boudewina and Ahlrich, and have heard that several of his children, gr gramma's brothers and sisters also immigrated while one or two stayed. The only one we know of so far is a Nicholas, known as Klaas who was married to Grace. They immigrated in 1900 and also lived in the Roseland area of Chicago not far from the Kok-Reckers, so we are quite sure they were related. The Nicholas-Grace Kok family is listed in both 1920 and 1930 census records with 7 children in 20 and 1more in 30. The names and years of birth were Hermijntje/Minnie 1893 NL, Aukje/Anna 1895 NL, Pieter/Peter 1899 NL, Boudewiena/Winnie 1903 IL, Helena/Lena 1905 IL, Johanna 1907 IL, Willem 1910. Grace b about 1914 is listed in the 1930 census. We suspect that if other children of Willem Kok ( and Hermijntje VanderHeiden) did immigrate around the same time as Klaas and Boudewina, they may well have settled in other Dutch American communities outside of Chicago. Western Michigan having many likely candidates. Hope this is helpful. At some point we know at least one of the sons of Nicholas and Grace (Pieter) name was changed to Cook, but we have not yet learned how and when. Perry
