When a small child his parents moved to Hillsdale County, this state, living there until he was eight years old. The family moved near Trent, Muskegon County, and for many years he occupied the old home after the death of his parents. He was a veteran of the Civil war enlisting in 1862 and serving three years. He was noted for his loyalty and love for the institutions of his country. In 1865 he was married to Adelia Whitney of Trent, who, with one son, Quincy of Pentwater, British Columbia, and one daughter, Mrs. George Westcott, of this village, survive him. Of a family of seven children, two are left. Mrs. Phoebe Wescott of Casnovia and Mrs. C.S. Bell, of Ocean Springs, Miss. Mr. Fulkerson was a man of sterling worth. Kindness and consideration for others were eminent traits of character. Little children as well as those of mature yea! rs, foundin him a staunch and loyal friend. To know him was to love, admire and respect him. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Monday at 11 o'clock, Rev. A.C. Parsons delivering a pleasing and comforting address and the remains were buried in Seamans cemetery his many friends will miss this cherry smile and holdhis kindly sym...... THE REST IS COVERED UP. SORRY Burnett Fulkerson was born in Hillsdale Co, Michigan. December 3, 1836 and died at Casnovia, June 30, 1904. He came to Kent County with his parents in 1849. His father, Lot Fulkerson, settling on the farm on part of which Casnovia now stands His father erected and managed the first hotel in Casnovia. Burn attended the first school taught in the village, R.D.Merritt being instructor. In exchange for a years work his father gave him forty acres of land now owned and occupied by Stephen Bitely. For ten years he was Supt of the Newaygo Manufacturing Co. Twenty years ago last November he moved from Newaygo to his commodious farm home north of the village and resided there until four months previous to his death, when he purchased and moved into the house owned by O.D. Blanchard. He was married in 1857 to Lydia Oatly. Two daughters, Ida and Carrie and one son, Henry, H. were born to them and have preceded him to their final resting place. In 1870 he was married to Eliza! Myers of Newaygo. Two children, Lottie and Henry were the result of this union. His wife and his daughter, the wife of Dr. Hersey of this village, one sister Sarah Kies of Casnovia, and his grand-daughter, Burnetta Johnson, survive him. Eight years ago he was stricken with paralysis and never regained his former vigor. The tragic death of his only son Henry a year ago last January was a shock from which he never recovered. He began to fail at this time and for some months prior to his death was an invalid requiring constant care. During his sickness he was a patient sufferer, ever thoughtful of wife, daughter and son who faithfully ministered to him. Mr. Fulkerson was a man of good business ability and was honest and upright in all his transactions. In his various occupations many men were in his employ who always spoke in highest terms of his fairness and justice in deal. He was a charitable man and the poor were never turned empty handed from his door. Socially! he was a member of Casnovia Lodge No. 349, I.O.O.F. While not a memb er of any church his sympathy was with it, and he always generous in contributing to its support. He believed in, and lived christian brotherhood. The funeral was held from the M.E. church July 2 and was largely attended. Rev. H. L. Rood had charge of the services and spoke words of hope, sympathy and consolation, a fitting eulogy for a worthy man. He was laid to rest in the cemetery south of the village near the graves of father, mother, brother and children. Hope this helps someone. I am not related.
