She was born November 14, 1916, in Lansing, MI, to John and Mary (Kobryznski) Galka. One evening, while growing up in Grand Rapids, she went on a blind date with Bert Kunish, and the couple fell in love and were married on May 25, 1946. Helen was always very involved with St. Jean's Church and the school. For several years she worked at Ryke's bakery in Muskegon, but was well known for her cake decorating outside the bakery. Helen always strived to do what was best for her husband and children. Her family includes her children, Kathleen and Mike Patton of Galesburg, and Dan and Debby Kunish of Elizabethtown, PA; and grandchildren, Heather, Ryan, Sarah, Emily, Laura and Amy. Helen died at the Laurels of Galesburg on January 13, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, in 1991. Friends may visit with her family from 10 -11 a.m. on January 31, 2004, at St. Jean's Catholic Church in Muske! gon, where a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements are with the Life Story Funeral Home- Rupert, Durham, Marshall, & Gren, Plainwell Chapel.
