He emigrated in 1903 to the USA. He married on 27 june 1907 in Muskegon Heights to Anna Meyers born in 1886, died in 1947. They had at least three children (daughters): 1 Florence born 1911, married to Merle Johnson 2 Katherine J. born 1913 , married to William A. Kleeves. 3 Wilhelmina Barteldina born 1916, married to Arlie Franklin Carrier Barney's sister Wilhelmina (Kort) Slagter, married to Hendrik Slagter also lived in Muskegon.
