Hello Muskegon List, I am trying to find more information about my great great great Grandmother who was born Viola Jackson, daughter of Milton C. Jackson and Mary Catherine Inman. I do have a poor xerox copy of an article printed in a Muskegon newspaper Tuesday November 8, 1955. I would like to obtain a better copy if that is possibly. The copy does not give the newspaper's name but the article was written by Nancy E. Klecka to celebrate her 91st birthday. >From that article I know that she lived at 1132 Aurora Street at the time. The neighborhood was gathering to celebrate her birthday. She attended Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was born November 8, 1864 in Wayland, Allegan County, MI. A year and a half later she moved to Home Township, Newaygo County (I am on that list and will ask there as well). She grew up there and married first Hiland W. Elwell. She moved to Muskegon in 1923 and was married to Fred Lyons at that time. They ran a grocery store in East Muskegon in 1925 w hich they operated for 8 years. Part of that time she was back in White Cloud taking care of a dry goods store. After he died (when?), she returned to Muskegon and remained since then. For twenty years she lived in the East Forest-Larch area. She was also married to a Philip Atwood for three years but he died in 1949. This is actually qutie a lot of information but I would like any suggestions on filling in the blanks. She died 1 December 1956 and is buried in the Whipple Cemetery. I am wondering about obituaries. I do have a death certificate. But, where else should I go from here. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Theresa

I am searching my Gt. Gt. Grandfather, Samuel Hargraves, believed to have lived/born in Castle Donnington, Leics, born about 1840, moved to City of London, Married 1868 to Elizabeth Martin. I believe he died 1881. The 1901 census shows his widow and female children at home, sons away at school. I don't think there is an American connection, but of course he could have had siblings which I do not know of. If you happen to come across his name, please let me know, would much appreciate it.
Boy this sounds interesting. Do you know any more about this Smith? There are Smith's that I have found from the area. Just in case anyone out there has a SLAYTON in their family tree, I'm passing this along. It does mentioned Grand Rapids, and Montague (Muskegon Co.) MI, as well as several other place names.
