Melissa, I just read your email regarding Charles and Emma Califf. What was Emma's maiden name? I have a family photo of the Califf family which I made a copy of. I was given to me by Henry Califf, who I work with at Herman Miller. Jim McElfish

I have no idea why the photo would be in your album, but on the other hand I have a number of photos from the late 1800's that I can't identify at all. Please give me an e-mail at [email protected] and see if we can figure this out. If you would title the message "Ionia Rehm" I will get it through my spam filter. regards, Bill Rehm

Oops, sorry listers, that should have been private to Phyllis! Hope everyone is doing well with your own summers and family searches! Donelly Mahoney Worthington
Hi Phyllis, just wondering how your visit was to Michigan. Hope it was fruitful and you had a great time! We've been busy with building a large barn shed and growing a fairly large garden, getting in drip irrigation, etc. We went camping on the Oregon Coast in Florence over the Fourth and had a great time, though we all caught a bug on the way home. Been really hot here, but beautiful. Talk to you later, Donelly

One place you can view the index (although not for the City of Muskegon yet) is through http://www.censusfinder.com/michigan_census5.htm This will take you to a portion of the Muskegon County Genealogy Resource Center website -- http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~muskegoncounty/Index.htm which is a volunteer project. Hope that helps!

I am specifically looking for a Lizzie McDonald that lived in Muskegon in 1884. Lizzie may be a nickname for Elizabeth, McDonald may have been her married name but I am not sure. Lizzie may have had family connections in Wisconsin, Vermont and Canada. Lizzie had a cousin Thomas Flood so her family connections may be Flood. Any suggestions for searching this timeframe in Muskegon would be helpful. Thanks. Kathleen
There is a book called "Michigan Ghost Towns". See if it's at your local library. That would probably be your best source for a town that just disappeared. Hi All: I was at the county clerk's office in Muskegon the other day for some research. I noted that there were books for births, weddings, and deaths. My question is if there are any books for divorces, or if there are no such books if there is any way to search for such data. [The problem is: Man and woman migrate from the Netherlands. They have two children, who move back to the Netherlands in their early childhoods for 10 years. The woman is not accounted for in any of the books available at the clerk's office or the Hackley library.] Thanks! Ed Spaans
