My great-great-grandfather (my father's mother's father) is listed in our family tree as J. Mims Leverett. I don't know exactly where he came from but I suspect it was somewhere around Troup County, Georgia because my dad used to tell me his grandmother was from that area and could remember Sherman's March through the state. Since my ancestors (and maybe yours) had a habit of naming children with family names (e.g., my father's first name was Leverett and my brother's first and middle names are Leverett and Lynn, that being my mother's mother's maiden name), I believe Mims might have been J. Mims' mother's maiden name. I have looked and looked but I can't seem to find any information about J. Mims and his wife Ella Agnes Hicks. Has anyone possibly run across him/them in your research and could help me get around this wall? I have a lot of information on my mother's side, but it's pretty scarce on my father's side.
