    1. [MIMS,MIMMS,MIMBS] Mims Newsletter & Hi-Tech Genealogy Very Long

    3. I have been thinking of going to Red River County and surrounding areas this summer to check on the Warren and Mims side of the family. I planned on meeting Richard Armstrong and exchanging info on Linah, John, Byron Mims, etc. Because so many have busy schedules, it is hard for people to go very far or spend weeks traveling. I wonder if there could be gatherings either by county or state where information, pictures, etc. can be exchanged and what has been gathered can be mailed to the organizer of the newsletter. The organizer of the newsletter could determine what would be of interest to many or all and include it in the newsletter. I have a book on CD. Unfortunately, the way it was done was just copied, page by page, so I can not do a name search, I have to look at the contents and locate the page, which is off, because a few of the first pages where it lists publishers etc., was not copied. This is not on the Mims side, it is on the Child side. It is several hundred pages long. It lists each person, tells when & where they were born and died. Lists thier occupation, children and spouse (or spouses), and in some cases the cause of death. All information is pretty compact. I wonder if something like this could be done for the Mims. I was thinking in Excel, where the information could be sorted by name, birthplace, death place, birth date, etc. Once the intial one is done, if someone wanted a copy of the CD, they would cover the cost of burning a copy an mailing. Once they have a CD, they could modify it as information is posted to a list. I do not have a CD burner (I would love a new computer), but if there is someone who has the ability to do it, that would be great. I also have a friend who helped her uncle and cousins put together information on the Ediger side of the her family all the way back to the 1775. They had the resourses to publish the information and sent copies to the Mormon Church and all major genealogy libraries in the U.S. The book is oversized and has 848 pages, exluding prefix and maps. It just follows the line of Heinrich and Peter Ediger. It is the continuation of the Johann "Hans" Edinger book that he published in 1994. The map shows where Johann was born in Prussia and the move to and through the U.S. There are a few pictures of people in the book, but not many. I have the book since my friend and I have been best friends since we were 3 years old (54 years!) and consider each other family. The prefix tells a little about how the book came about, but what I like is that it lists the information that he requested from each person, how to use the information and all known books previously published on the family name by himself and others. Wouldn't that be great on the Mims family? But, what an undertaking! If anyone is interested in the information he requested and the order in which he requested it, I will post it. ------------------------------------------------------ Hi-Tech genealogy. My husband said he saw something on TV about a Houston company doing DNA testing for genealogy. From what he understood, this only helps if you are related to someone famous who has had DNA testing done on them or if you are related to someone who is in the nationwide crimminal DNA banks. I believe that all the Mims are connected to one family from Europe (either Wales or England) and all are connected to Lina Mims, Lt. Gov. and acting Gov. of Virgina, and even to Jesse James. But, I do not know if I would like to find out if we were connected to some mass murder. That is my only drawback on the DNA testing. I guess it would be something to include, if there is a relationship, but goodness, that is scarry. Jan
