    1. Re: [MIMS,MIMMS,MIMBS] Texas Mims
    2. Hello, Right now, I have nothing on Gideon Mims. There were two John M Mims in Red River County in the 1850's. One was later a post master in one of the small towns, I have that info put up some place. The other was my great grandfather. He would not have been the one donating the land for the cemetary. May have been the one who was a post master. But, I think it is very possible the two were related. I know my grandfather had two first cousins named Otho Mims, so there is no reason that the two John M Mims could not have been cousins. My John M Mims came to Red River County in the 1860's, he married Margaret Warren who lived in Red River County, stayed there until 1869 then moved to Arkansas. They had lived in Arkansas a while before they joing the army and had some family there, also. John's brother, Linah, stayed in Texas. I hope to travel to Red River County to do some research within the next few years. I have heard rumors that some of my Mims line donated land and built churches in Red River County and Rusk. One was a Baptist Church and one a Methodist church. There is also a "Mims Baptist Church", but do not know if that was one that was donated and built by the Mims, may have just been named after them. My Mims came from the Carolina's, migrated to Virginia, where the elder Linah was Lt. Gov., and acting gov. for a time. They moved on to Kentucky, then Arkansas and Texas. Some moving back and forth between the two states. Jan
