    3. Hello, I have a different outlook on your family. Here is what I have. What do you think? Descendants of Valentine Mims Generation No. 1 1. VALENTINE4 MIMS (THOMAS3, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born c 1747 in VA/NC, and died Bef. 1790 in maybe Bladen Co NC. He married UNKNOWN c 1771 in maybe Bladen Co NC. She died Aft. 1790. Notes for VALENTINE MIMS: By at least Sep 1765, Valentine Mims was in Bladen Co NC because he patented 50 acres there on Sep 6 1765 and 100 acres on May 19 1780. (Williamson, Vol 2, 13) Perhaps Valentine had died by 1790. I (currently) believe that the 1790 census of Bladen Co NC shows young Valentine as the head of household with his widowed mother. (This may be completely wrong. It could be that the census is showing the father Valentine with his wife and no children in the household.) The listing shows: 1 m > 16 [son Valentine c16], 1 f [widowed mother]. Young adult son Shadrack was living nearby. In any case, father Valentine probably died prior to 1800 because he was not listed as a head of household in NC or SC and his son Valentine inherited and sold some of the family land in 1799. Bet. 1807 - 1810, Barnwell Co SC; m. ELIZABETH, c 1796, prob SC; b. Bet. 1774 - 1784; d. Aft. 1810. Notes for VALENTINE MIMS: Little is currently known about this Valentine Mims. The name of his mother and other siblings are not known with any certainty. Valentine was probably born in Bladen County NC because his father had land there in 1765. I have assumed that Valentine Mims and Shadrack Mims were brothers because they were both listed in 1790 Bladen Co NC and in 1800 Barnwell Co SC. At some unknown time during the 1790s, Valentine received land in Bladen Co NC that his father patented: 50 acres patented on Sep 6 1765 and 100 acres patented on May 19 1780. (Williamson, Vol 2, 13) In Dec 1799, Valentine sold these two tracts to David Mims Sr of Bladen Co NC. Columbus Co NC was formed from part of Bladen Co in 1808. In 1815, David Mims Sr of Columbus Co NC sold 238 acres on the east side of White Marsh and Welches Creek to John Register. The deed included a history of the property: "the above two tracts devolved to Valentine Mims & were conveyed by Valentine Mims to David Mims on Dec 29 1799." (Williamson, 58) With the sale of this property, Valentine probably left the county. About 1796 probably in SC, Valentine married Elizabeth (surname unknown). The 1800 census shows Valentine and his brother Shadrack in Barnwell Co SC. The census shows: Valentine Mims 1 m 16-26 [Valentine 26] 2 m 0-10 [son 3, James 1] 1 f 16-26 [Elizabeth] Between 1807 and 1810, Valentine died, leaving his wife with young children. The 1810 census shows the family still in Barnwell Co SC: Elizabeth Mimbs 2 m 10-16 [son 13, James 11] 1 m 0-10 [son 9-5] 1 f 26-45 [Elizabeth 26-36] 2 f 0-10 [dau 9-5, Elizabeth 3] It is not known what happened to widow Elizabeth or some of the children. Son James and daughter Elizabeth married in FL in 1828, so perhaps by 1827, the family settled there. References Williamson, Jason M. Abstracts of Earliest Columbus Co NC Deeds 1808-1818. Most of the rest that I have was given to me by Jeanne Flice and other list members but with few sources. > > Thomas-4-e married Catherine ? and they had 10 children. I have that Thomas died June 1826 with no place. One of their children was Shadrack Mims born abt 1767 in Barnwell, Bladen Co. NC and died 1813 with no place. One of their children was Shadrack Mims, born about 1767 in Barnwell, Bladen Col, NC, and died in 1813 with no place. In about 1784 he married Hannah Calhoun, born about 1767 in Barnwell, NC also but with no more information. I have one note that says Shadrack and Hannah moved to SC between 1790-1800 with Hannah's brothers, Dixon and Micajah, Jr. I show Shadrack and Hannah had 5 children, one being Captain Jesse Mims, born 5, March 1790 in Miller, SC. I find him in Escambia Co., FL on the 1830 census but don't know when he arrived. He married two McDavid sisters, Melinda (1825) and Jane (10 June 1849). Jesse and Melinda had 9 children, one being Lucy Adeline Mims, my Great Grandmother. Jesse died 19 Jun 1864 in Escambia, FL and is buried in the Vaughn Cem! > etery, Molino, Fl. > > Also buried there with him are > > John L.
