I received it in Mar 2000 from my wife's cousin, Deborah Manley, who was at that time actively studying her Cobb/Mims ancestry. She said at the time that someone on the Mims list sent it to her some time before, but she could not recall who. She also said she had seen references to it on the list from time to time. A search on "Leaves" in the 1996 archives of the list shows a number of messages about it. I find that Kate Shue provided copies to interested persons in Jul 1996. She is the transcriber, and there are a couple of notes from "Kate" in the copy I have. In another post in Jul 1996 I find a note from Marilyn H. Symonds in which she says: ---- It is a photocopy of a typescript which I found in family files in Clayton Genealogical Library, Houston, Texas, apparently completed circa March 1961. Mims, now deceased, stated in "Leaves": "Ten years of research for the State of Louisiana, followed by four years in Washington, gave me opportunity to pursue the study [of Samuel Mims and Fort Mims]. Countless hours were spent in the Library of Congress, the National Archives, the Bureau of Land Management in the Department of Interior, and other departments and agencies at our Nation's capital, digging into orginial sources for facts about Samuel Mims and the Red Stick War." ---- And in Aug 1996, Kate Shue says: --- It's fascinating material, full of history of the family. At least one of the genealogical "facts" is wrong, but whose research is without mistakes? And it does have a lot of correct information and clues. --- I do not find any other commentary on the accuracy of the data. As Lillian says, any current thought would be appreciated. Terry Reigel
