I was looking at this paper and noticed that the 3rd line after 20 it looks like the name is John Marlin Cobb. Then, the 3rd line after what is marked either 23 or 29, it looks like it says Marlin Mims. There is another name there that might be David, but I can not tell for sure. There is a name between Robert Mims Jr. and Elizabeth Mims that I can not read. Can anyone help me out here? Can anyone tell me when the Cobbs first married into the Mims family? I was thinking around 1830 or1840, but now I am thinking earlier than that. Jan
My Elizabeth Mims married Ammon Cobb in 1828 in Warren County, GA. She was the daughter of David Spivey Mims and Elizabeth Broome. David S. was the son of Martin Mims. What paper is it that you have? The first Mims that I know of marrying the Cobbs are Cornelia Rebecca Mims m. Robert Livingston Cobb 13 May 1835 and Julia Ann Mims m. Joshua Cobb 23 Jun 1835, both in or near Eddyville, KY. This Cobb family came from New England, and is not related, in America at least, to the Cobb and Cobbs families from Virginia. Terry Reigel
Hello, Mims cousins! The 1789 Tax List for Goochland County can be found at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ysbinns/vataxlists/index.htm This site has tax records for 1790-ish and 1800-ish to approximate the census records which were lost. Be sure to check all the counties where you do research! Here is who I think each one is: Gideon Mims, s/o David Mims and Agnes Weldy, wife (2) Elizabeth Parrish Robert Mims, s/o John Mims and Sarah Horn Martin Mims, s/o John Mims and Sarah Horn Sarah Mims, widow of John Mims; Sarah Horn Robert Mims Jr, s/o Shadrack Mims and Elizabeth Woodson; Robert's wife Lucy Poor Estate David Mims dec'd, widow Martha Diuguid Mims; David died 1786 Elizabeth Mims, widow of Shadrack; Elizabeth Woodson Jesse Mims, s/o John Mims and Sarah Horn; wife Patty Miller Ann Blomquist Orlando, FL
