In the “We are all related category” I was attracted by Jean Felice’s posting on 5/20/2000 (More #9) relating to the testimony of Elizabeth (wife of William Mims) relating to the attack on her and her 2 daughters Mary Snead and Susanna Dearman (wife of Thomas Monroe Dearman) by the Bond family. Thomas Monroe is my wife’s 5th Great Grandfather. No, my wife’s mother and father are not distant cousins – mother being a Mims descendant and father being a Dearman descendant. She descends from Thomas Monroe’s first wife (unknown) by which he had 6 children from 1784 to 1783, before marrying Susannah Mims, (daughter of William, grand daughter of Benjamin, and great granddaughter of Thomas) in 1789. And yes, when I opened the recent Gedcom Ann sent, there it was, Thomas Monroe Dearman and Susanna Mims. I have one more child for this second family of Thomas Monroe and slightly different birth dates. I have: Kizzah, female born about 1790 (not in Gedcom) Richard, male born about 1795 (vs 1790) Anna, female born about 1797 (vs 1795) Druscilla, female born about 1799 (date agrees) Mary, female born about 1802 ( vs 1804) For those who descend from Susanna Mims Dearman, here are some notes on your ancestor Thomas Monroe Dearman: Thomas was listed as a chainbearer for land surveyed for his brother, Solomon, in 1772 at Anson County,NC.[1] He served in the Revolutionary War as a private from the Cheraw District,SC.[2] In 1791, Thomas received a land grant for 50 acres on the northside of the Flax Patch in Richmond County,NC.[3] Thomas received a State grant for 811 acres on Bear Branch on Upper Beaver Dam and Black Creek in Chesterfield County,SC. in 1809[5] and is listed on the Chesterfield County census in 1810.[6] It is believed that he lived in Tennessee sometime between 1812 and 1816. He is then listed on the 1820 Jackson County,MS[7] census and the 1830 Greene County,AL census.[8] On 11Dec1833, Thomas applied for a pension in Pickens County,AL.[2] probably living close to his daughter, Drucilla Holland. In 1839, Thomas and his wife, Anna (Susannah), moved to Sumter County,AL. where they are found living next to their daughter, Anna.[9] His pension, dated 12Jul1839, indicates that he had been living in Lauderdale County,MS. for two years. and that he was last paid 22May1840 indicating that he had died soon thereafter.[2] [1] "Anson County, NC, Abstracts of Early Records" by May Wilson McBee [2] Pension Application #S32401 filed in the National Archives under Thomas McDearman -abstract listed below- [3] Land Grant, NC.
