Nancy, I assume you wanted me to forward this to the Mims-L@rootsweb.com. Thanks for sharing Mavis ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob & Nancy Sieck To: tomtwig@bellsouth.net Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 11:32 AM Subject: R. E. Mims Dear Mavis: Our local Titusville, FL newspaper (Star Advocate) prints a feature which is called "Remember" which consists of "clips of years gone by." On 24 Sep under the heading of 100 Yeas Ago---1903, it reads: "R. E. Mims, Jr., Titusville's efficient wagon maker and blacksmith, completed the wagons for the county, in which the children will be conveyed to school. They are on the style of an omnibus and are a credit to the maker. They were shipped this week to the various places in the county where they will be used." Thought you might want to post that on your Mims list. I tried sending this to Leah Beard leahnatlanta@avana.net My message bounced back. Happy hunting! Nancy C. Sieck

Thomas Jefferson Mims is my great-grandfather. His daughter Ida Pearl Mims Gilley is my grandmother. I have his birthday as May 27, 1861 death as January 12, 1927. I got the death date from my grandmother's bible and off his gravestone at Goodwater Cemetery. I do have more information and will share. I am only a collector of this information lots of it came from my great-aunt Maggie and my mother. None is verified except from these sources and talking to lots of people that knew him and his family. Have hit a wall passed him. I would love to make a connection to his father. I can only speculate at this point as to how we are connected to all the Mims cousins on this list. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Retha

Hi Karen I'd be interested in the James-Mims family tree jpg file. My name is Staley Wood Mims III, and the Wood derives from the Woodson line according to my grandfather, Staley Wood Mims. We are in the Matthew Mims from Twiggs Co. GA line. Years of multigenerational searching have not been able to uncover Matthew's parentage. Hi Barabara: I have a family tree put together by Philip Steele who is a descendent of Jesse James. It lists Zerelda's tree as well back to her great grandfather. I believe I have it in JPG format, if you are interested. Best, Karen Atherton nee Mims
On January 18, 1840, Emily Mimms married Andrew Jackson Raines in Macon County, Alabama. I am searching for the parents of Emily. I suspect that she was either the daughter or sister of Littleton Mims of Macon County, because she and Jackson Raines named their son (my great-grandfather) James Andrew Jackson Littleton Raines. Emily seems to have been a bit old to have been Littleton's daughter, however. Another possible candidate to be her father is an H. Mims who also appears on the 1840 census in Macon County. I believe this is the Henry Mims who was born in Georgia and later died in Texas. I believe that both Emily and Jackson may have died young, because as of the 1860 census, their son James was living with Jackson's sister, Sarah Raines Ogletree and her husband, Lafayette (L.G. Ogletree). I have tried to tie this branch of the Mims family to the Mims family of Baldwin County, Alabama, without success. A complicating factor is that Jackson Raines was part Creek Indian, and I doubt that any member of the Mims family of Baldwin County would have been in the mood to consort with Indians. If anyone has heard of any of these people, I would like to talk to you. I have a fair amount of information on the Raines family, but nothing on the Mimses except Emily's name. You can e-mail me at sehoytwo@aol.com, Thanks. Suzanne Anthony Gorey
Jesse JAMES was outlived by his biological mother, so I don't see how he could have had a step-mother. Jesse died in 1882, and his biological mother, Zerelda (COLE) JAMES, died in 1911. My great-great-grandfather (my father's mother's father) is listed in our family tree as J. Mims Leverett. I don't know exactly where he came from but I suspect it was somewhere around Troup County, Georgia because my dad used to tell me his grandmother was from that area and could remember Sherman's March through the state. Since my ancestors (and maybe yours) had a habit of naming children with family names (e.g., my father's first name was Leverett and my brother's first and middle names are Leverett and Lynn, that being my mother's mother's maiden name), I believe Mims might have been J. Mims' mother's maiden name. I have looked and looked but I can't seem to find any information about J. Mims and his wife Ella Agnes Hicks. Has anyone possibly run across him/them in your research and could help me get around this wall? I have a lot of information on my mother's side, but it's pretty scarce on my father's side.
