    2. To Jan and the group: Anyone want the photo of Drury Sr.'s grave that Roy has, or other documentation on Drury's line? Let me know, I'll try to fill in some blanks for you. Jan, I appreciate your interest in sharing information and privacy issues. With that in mind, I do share much 1700 - 1800s information with others. My philosophy goes along with the fact that there is so much wrong information that is listed, especially on the internet and without sources listed. My goal is to leave much information with many researchers that includes references to specific documents or support. This way, perhaps more correct data in the future will remain and less poor information will be circulated. It's unfortunate that some hobbyists don't travel or document like serious researchers, nor do some choose to give any credit to others for their difficult work, or claim sources found by others as if they might have actually really worked and assembled the pieces in court houses, state libraries, etc. John Van Zandt

    3. Jan, If you run accross a John McIver Mims while in Red River County, Texas. he was born 6 Aug 1849 in Fairfield, SC and died 25 Jan 1907 in Clarksville, TX, buried in Fairview Cemetery, Clarksville. Wife first name was Mattie. Daughter Gertrude, born Nov 1876. I would like to know Matties madden name and what happened to Gertrude. This John was not the Post Master, he was in the Lumber business. Please don't go to extra trouble. John was the son of my great uncle James Sessions and Sara McIver Mims. 2. JAN DAVIS
    3. A good point is made about privacy. I do not mind having my name and information in the genealogy research, but I have one sister that would not like any information published. She has not only been a victim of identity theft, where they got to her bank and her credit cards, but she was also a victim of stalking. I think it should be up to the individual about having thier information listed and just what information is listed. A while back, there was a site listed on one of the groups I belong to that listed bogus genealogy sites. If anyone has this URL, would they post it? I made the mistake of subscribing to a bogus site once. When I first started doing genealogy I was a little (okay a lot) stupid. I had posted to many boards on the different families I was researching. I got an individual email from a woman (or said they were) who said she had a lot of information on the LaFerry side of the family and that for $25.00, she would send it to me. I sent her $25.00 and what I got in return was the name of a husband and wife with death dates. No birth dates or places, no children, no death places, just the dates. Had it been more informative, I would have thought the money was well spent. When I get a new computer, I am going to start listing all the information I have and saving it to CD. I will share what I have with anyone that wants the information. Jan

    3. My great grandfather was John M Mims and he lived in Red River County, Texas. He was born in Kentucky, moved to Arkansas, then after the war moved to Red River County or nearby. Married Margaret Warren in Red River County, movced back to Arkansas a few years later. He is not the one that was postmaster. Seems there were several John M Mims in the area at the time. I would like to see how many Mims I can find in the cemetaries in that area. Jan

    3. I have been thinking of going to Red River County and surrounding areas this summer to check on the Warren and Mims side of the family. I planned on meeting Richard Armstrong and exchanging info on Linah, John, Byron Mims, etc. Because so many have busy schedules, it is hard for people to go very far or spend weeks traveling. I wonder if there could be gatherings either by county or state where information, pictures, etc. can be exchanged and what has been gathered can be mailed to the organizer of the newsletter. The organizer of the newsletter could determine what would be of interest to many or all and include it in the newsletter. I have a book on CD. Unfortunately, the way it was done was just copied, page by page, so I can not do a name search, I have to look at the contents and locate the page, which is off, because a few of the first pages where it lists publishers etc., was not copied. This is not on the Mims side, it is on the Child side. It is several hundred pages long. It lists each person, tells when & where they were born and died. Lists thier occupation, children and spouse (or spouses), and in some cases the cause of death. All information is pretty compact. I wonder if something like this could be done for the Mims. I was thinking in Excel, where the information could be sorted by name, birthplace, death place, birth date, etc. Once the intial one is done, if someone wanted a copy of the CD, they would cover the cost of burning a copy an mailing. Once they have a CD, they could modify it as information is posted to a list. I do not have a CD burner (I would love a new computer), but if there is someone who has the ability to do it, that would be great. I also have a friend who helped her uncle and cousins put together information on the Ediger side of the her family all the way back to the 1775. They had the resourses to publish the information and sent copies to the Mormon Church and all major genealogy libraries in the U.S. The book is oversized and has 848 pages, exluding prefix and maps. It just follows the line of Heinrich and Peter Ediger. It is the continuation of the Johann "Hans" Edinger book that he published in 1994. The map shows where Johann was born in Prussia and the move to and through the U.S. There are a few pictures of people in the book, but not many. I have the book since my friend and I have been best friends since we were 3 years old (54 years!) and consider each other family. The prefix tells a little about how the book came about, but what I like is that it lists the information that he requested from each person, how to use the information and all known books previously published on the family name by himself and others. Wouldn't that be great on the Mims family? But, what an undertaking! If anyone is interested in the information he requested and the order in which he requested it, I will post it. ------------------------------------------------------ Hi-Tech genealogy. My husband said he saw something on TV about a Houston company doing DNA testing for genealogy. From what he understood, this only helps if you are related to someone famous who has had DNA testing done on them or if you are related to someone who is in the nationwide crimminal DNA banks. I believe that all the Mims are connected to one family from Europe (either Wales or England) and all are connected to Lina Mims, Lt. Gov. and acting Gov. of Virgina, and even to Jesse James. But, I do not know if I would like to find out if we were connected to some mass murder. That is my only drawback on the DNA testing. I guess it would be something to include, if there is a relationship, but goodness, that is scarry. Jan

Jeannine Jackson, descendant of Martin, David Spivey, Jefferson Augustus, Orville Augustus, William Floyd. P. S. As for the reunion, my direct Mims never lived in Edgefield as far as I know but it is a beautiful little town. I have visited there and found the folks at the library most helpful. I think it would be a nice place for a reunion -- a quiet place with no heavy traffic or congestion, as far as I could tell from my visit several years ago.

    3. While looking through some Bibb County, GA court records for any little thing mentioning my ancestor, I came across an entry for an E.B. Mims who received money from the court for D. Gurganus's casket in 1851. For several years prior to his death, David Gurganus was on the Pauper list in the court records and so I assume that is why E.B. Mims is receiving money from the court for David's casket. My question is---does anyone know if E.B. Mims was an undertaker or made caskets? I am trying to determine what connection, if any, he had to David. Is anyone researching this Mims line? thanks, Michelle Ganus Taggart
