I thought the List might like to see this message!! --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: "Gene Mims" <weather-man@worldnet.att.net> Sorry to be so long in getting back about the DNA. I really am quite new to it. I was doing some research on line and I clicked on one of the links and it took me to one of the groups that had a project going. Inasmuch as I could get the group fee, I went ahead and signed up for it. They sent me my kit which consists of two plastic swabs and a solution to put them in after you scrape the inside of your mouth. It's not quite like what you see on CSI where they take a cotton swab. Anyway, you send it back to them and after 6 to 8 weeks you get a report back. The test they initially do has 12 markers. One test that they do can only be done by the male in the family you are researching. That's one of the reasons that the more Mimses that participate, the better the chance of getting a match. The test also can tell you the country where your family originated. I sure that most of us would be British or Celtic. There is also another test that only the female side of the family can take. I would suggest that you go to this web site http://www.FamilyTreeDNA.com as it gives all the technical aspects of researching using DNA. I know I didn't shed a whole lot of light on your question, but I hope I helped some. If you have more questions, please let me know. I do hope all will give it some favorable consideration. Gene Mims
For all those that plan to come to Edgefield, SC. in May for the Mims family reunion, you will have to make reservations soon. The best time for me is Memorial weekend. If someone can come up with another time, I am prety flexible as long as it is the later part of May. For those of you who will be comming in an RV. there are campgrounds in Akien not too far from Edgefield, I stayed there in 2001 when I went to Edgefield. I wish I could do more but I am barely able to see the keyboard on my computer. I had eye surgery yesterday and now my glasses dont work, 3 weeeks for new ones. I hope to see many of you in Edgefield and compare notes with you. Thank you for the strong suport you are giving this reunion. Roy Mims, San Diego, CA.

Marie and List Members, Have you found any information about Nancy Mims who was born in 1809, and married Alfred Gallant in 1828, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Nancy and Alfred lived all their lives in Tuscaloosa. I have not been successful in placing Nancy with any of the many Mims who were in Alabama during this time. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hi Roy, I tried to answer you directly but it bounced. I have already sent a note to Connie with your message attached. She is also the VP of the Edgefield Historical Society I think. If you don't hear from her by Monday morning let me know and I will try to find out some thing else for you. You will find the people there very helpful. Can anyone who lives closer to Edgfield SC help set this up? All we need is to find lodging for the ones that are comming. I am having eye surgery next week and wont be able to use my computer for awhile. The time line for the reunion is Memorial weekend, that is when I will be in the area. If any body can help, I will be very grateful. Roy Mims, San Diego, Ca.
Roy, You might just try the Edgefield List. There are a few helpful people there that live in the area like Connie that is also on the Abbyville List. Wish my Mims went through there as I would love to go back. Thanks Ann for the response. No, what can I help you with, ha. I'm wondering whether you traced your line to your satisfaction. Did you trace any more or are you still a lost rib? I have to leave the house and usher at my church tonight. We are having a concert so I want be able to talk tonight and tomorrow I am showing my home. I am selling it. Besides we need a long conversation and I want to have time to talk. Let me know whether you need help or not, maybe we can straighten this out. Marie
Marie Glad to hear you are getting ready to go to print, that must be a good feeling! What is it I can help you with on my line? Ann Mims-Neff San Antonio,TX

Her second husband was William Walter Popwell 1874 -. Their children were: Loyal Etta Popwell 1898 - 1990 (married Arthur Edwin Perkins 1879 - 1964), Edward Luther Popwell 1900 - 1904, Maria Popwell 1911 -, Clarence Popwell 1913 -, Lena Popwell 1916 -, Annie Popwell 1918 -, Marion Popwell 1920 -, and Evelyn Popwell 1924 -. Can anyone tell me more about Ida or her parents? A Louise C. Dobbs, age 7 from OH and age 17 from LA are listed in the 1860 and 1870 censuses respectively. In both cases, she and her sister, Sallie A. Dobbs are living in Mobile, AL with Rev. J. Albert Massey and his wife, Susan J., who may have been their mother. I am not positive that this Louise is the correct mother. Thank you, Lesley.
