The only thing that I've seen (previously) is a reference to a marriage between Drury Mims and Ann Ridgeway, 2 Apr. 1750 in Cumberland Co. I have not previously attempted to verify this with any sources in Virginia. Now, was just reading a reference on Rootsweb.com/usgenweb for the: Cumberland County Marriage Bonds (Transcribed by Kathy Merrill for the USGenWeb Archives Special Collections Project) William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine, Vol. 20, No. 1., (Jul., 1911), pp. 21-30 (Note: Spelling for Ann Ridgway) Article lists the following on page 23: "April 2, 1750, Drury Mims & Ann Ridgway. Sec. Samuel Ridgway." Visit rootsweb for the complete marriage bonds transcription: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/cumberland/vitals/marriages/marr0000.t xt John Van Zandt
The following are listed as Patriots in a book published by Daughters of the American Revolution, titled: DAR Patriot Index - Centennial Edition, Part 2, Page 2039. Those listed may have provided supplies or held office during this time, or possible served in uniform. A listing with PS and no rank indicates that military service may not have been proven for membership in the DAR. The --- indicates that no surname (maiden name) was listed for the wife of the patriot listed. This is the complete list of Mims in this edition with no alternate spellings listed: Mims: David: b. 1-2-1734 VA d a 12-16-1819 NC m Elizabeth Cullen Pvt NC David: b. 1700 VA d 1781 VA m Agnes Weldy PS VA David: b 1748 VA d a 10-16-1786 VA m Martha Duiguid PS VA Drury: b 1744 VA d 1818 SC m Lydia Jones Pvt SC John: b c 1740 VA d 1810 SC m (1) Mary Moss (2) Mrs. Elizabeth Howard Sol SC Shadrach: b a 1765 d 11-23-1807 GA m Elizabeth --- Sol PS GA William: b 1762 VA d 1825 TN m Millie --- Pvt SC Of course: The book has been out for awhile, and other qualified listings may be added to future editions. Also, there can be many available sources for the spellings and dates, and your information may be as good or better when matched with numerous sources. Thought some of you may not have the information from this source. John Van Zandt
Roy, I am so sorry that you got sick. It is aggrevating to have to fool with our health at times. Has someone reserved the Tompkins Library for a Saturday tour? One of the other list administrators checked with Rootsweb/Ancestry, and this is what she was told: ----------------------------------------- Trees uploaded to either side (RW/Ancestry) are visible from both sides. Ancestry is *not* charging for access or selling trees: access will remain free from both the RootsWeb and Ancestry side as it has always been. What Ancestry is offering for an extra charge is access to a special search engine to search the trees for you. Folks can still search the trees manually or browse the trees for free the same way they always have. Think of it like a research assistant: you can hire someone to help you look for your ancestors, or you can research yourself for free. That's essentially what it is, except that it's computerized, not human. ----------------------------------------------- so we seem to have some conflicting information. Is anyone researching Kenis Mims of Pike County, Kentucky? Just found him and sure could use some help. Related through Anna married to Randolph Leedy. His mother was Catherine Pruner. Thanks
Do any of you have any idea who John K Mims is??? --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Steve smith <steves@toad.net> Hello Ann, The only information I have on John K. Mims is that he was a Confederate soldier in Co. E, 11th Mississippi. He is buried in plot D-65 on "Confederate Hill," Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. His stone is unreadable, so we base our information on cemetery records. He is one of over 600 Confederate veterans buried on "Confederate Hill." We have started a project designed to see that all those on "The Hill" will be properly marked for many years to come. The project is called "Adopt a Confederate" and information on the project and "Confederate Hill" can be found on a website I posted at: http://www.toad.net/~steves/index <http://www.toad.net/%7Esteves/index>. When I say "we" I mean the Col. Harry W. Gilmor Camp #1388, Sons of Confederate Veterans, based in Baltimore. We also hope to accomplish two other goals. First, we hope to learn as much as we can about the men buried on "Confederate Hill" and preserve that information for future generations. Second, we hope to make the descendents of these men aware of their final resting place. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions, concerns or comments. Sincerely, Steve Smith

I normally would only post this on the Stewart DNA list, but this was just too good not share with everyone. A man has matched the line of Charles Steward, one of the earliest VA. lines . Charles Steward was in Henrico Co VA by 1632, from there they intermarried with the Burton, Hatcher, Tanner, Farmer families. This man was very excited to learn he matched my friend, as he only could get back to a certain Robert Stewart born ca. 1785-1790 in the Giles CO VA area. Robert Stewart was found on 1820 Mercer Co VA, now West VA census, with wife Mary. Imagine his surprise to learn her comes from one of the oldest documented Stewart families in the USA, who were by the way from England.
