    1. Re: [MIMS,MIMMS,MIMBS] Texas Mims
    2. Hello, Right now, I have nothing on Gideon Mims. There were two John M Mims in Red River County in the 1850's. One was later a post master in one of the small towns, I have that info put up some place. The other was my great grandfather. He would not have been the one donating the land for the cemetary. May have been the one who was a post master. But, I think it is very possible the two were related. I know my grandfather had two first cousins named Otho Mims, so there is no reason that the two John M Mims could not have been cousins. My John M Mims came to Red River County in the 1860's, he married Margaret Warren who lived in Red River County, stayed there until 1869 then moved to Arkansas. They had lived in Arkansas a while before they joing the army and had some family there, also. John's brother, Linah, stayed in Texas. I hope to travel to Red River County to do some research within the next few years. I have heard rumors that some of my Mims line donated land and built churches in Red River County and Rusk. One was a Baptist Church and one a Methodist church. There is also a "Mims Baptist Church", but do not know if that was one that was donated and built by the Mims, may have just been named after them. My Mims came from the Carolina's, migrated to Virginia, where the elder Linah was Lt. Gov., and acting gov. for a time. They moved on to Kentucky, then Arkansas and Texas. Some moving back and forth between the two states. Jan

    3. Hello All, I am looking for information about Gideon Mims who died in Red River County, Texas about 1850. There is a reference to him in the "Mims Leaves" freeing about 10 ten slaves and giving the rest of his estate to his sister Sarah Holman of Virginia. I have also seen a transcribed Northern Standard newspaper that shows Gideon Mims as a representative from Jonesboro to the Republic of Texas Congress. Looking for information on J.M. Mims who sold 8 acres of land to the Clarksville Cemetery Association in 1895 that became the Fairview cemetery in Clarksville, Texas. Looking for information on any caucasian Mims of Red River County Texas from the 1860's and further back. Thanks Estella

    2. Hi Mavis, My files are posted on WorldConnect but I just checked and no I have not run across Valentine Mims in Three Rivers. I went to college in Kingsville (Texas A&I University) which is not too far from Three Rivers. If I get down there again I will see what I can find. Three Rivers is about 4 hours south of Houston. Glad you liked my site. Hope it helps you in some way. Jim Mims Houston, TX

Medina Co is a very large county and as I go to different places in the county I take the time to look at the local Cem. and so far I have had no luck locating his grave site... 2. Hi List, My Dad and I just made a trip to Edgefield, Johnston, Newberry, SC and Augusta GA. In all I have taken 500 pictures. Over 200 from Willowbrook Cemetery in Edgefield, about 40 from Mount of Olives in Johnston, I forgot how many in the others. I now have uploaded the majority of these pictures to my website. 3. Hi Ralph, I am a descendant of David James Mims, b. 1813 Darlington District SC. He migrated to Webster Parish, LA in 1857, died near Minden, LA in 1885, buried in the Crow Cemetery. He was my Great Grandfather. He also had a brother, Henry M. Mims, b. 1816. I would appreciate any information you could share on this Mims line, if they are the ones you mentioned. 3. The names you mention are not familiar, however, my Baileys were in Twiggs for the 1818 Tax Digest. Moved to Houston County by 1822, and Randolph County by 1834. May have been in Wilkinson which was carved out of Twiggs. My family is Philip Bailey b. 1760-1770, place unknown, wife unknown. Known children were Lovecey (spelled several ways) b. 1793 in NC, Bryan b. 1806 in Ga. married to Teresa Johnston b. 1808 in Ga., and John and Thomas b. 1800-1810. William Bailey who lived next to Philip and who is believed to be related to Philip may have moved to Wilkinson County as there is a William in the 1830 Wilkingson census. I also have a Mims line dating back to James D. b. 1808 in SC who was in Talbot County along with Henry Mims who apparently does not connect to my line. Migrated to Webster Parish, La. Anything familiar? 3. Hello MIms Cousins? We live close to Laurens county. My ancestors who were the descendants of Shadrack Mims who died in Lincoln Co ga in 1807 came to Twiggs and then some of them went on to Autauga(sp) Co Al. I have often wondered if some of the children went to Laurens as one of the sons of James Ware and Mary Mims Ware went to Laurens and these Mims were their cousins and uncles. I have not had time to research in Laurens COunty but if you are coming to this area, you need to go to the Washington Genealogy Library in Macon, GA and also the Ladson Genealogy Library in Vidalia GA. Vidalia is only two counties over from Laurens. Please feel free to email me prior to your visit and maybe we could meet for lunch. Macon is about 50 miles from Dublin which is the county seat of Laurens Co and Vidalia is about the same distance. You can go on I 16 from Dublin to Macon all the way, but you have to take an exit off I 16 to get to Vidalia. If you will email me privately, I will give you my phone number. thanks, betty in ga ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ted and Freda Noble" <tnoble@mcn.org> To: <MIMS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 02, 2004 6:26 PM Subject: [MIMS,MIMMS,MIMBS] Laurens, Wilkinson, Twiggs Counties, Georgia? > Does anyone on this List research Laurens County, Georgia, families? > My Robertson families were there.
