I would love to get a copy of Mims Roots also. Could you put me on the list. Sandy Robinson.
Betty, Did the census list the State where Wesley King was born? My Cole and Mims ancestors were from Darlington and Sumter District's SC. In the late 1800s, there was a community near present day Kingstree, SC known as Seloc. This is Coles spelled backward, also called Cole's Crossing in the early 1800s. Kingstree was in the Williamsburg, District. William King and Nancy A. Cole were married there about 1821. Soleo could be Seloc misspelled ! just a thought. The reunion which has been proposed for October, 2004 will be mentioned in the upcoming Summer, 2004 issue of Mims Roots. John Van Zandt Editor Mims Roots
The reunion plans sound good - may I suggest that you advertise it on some of the other venues - Dick Eastman's newsletter, the Roots Mims and Edgefield Genweb message boards, etc. When I was there last year I stayed at the Crossroads Motel, Rts. 25 & 19, Trenton 803-275-2081. It wan't a "first rate" motel - but acceptable for sleeping and $35.a night! Pat Scharf
How can we sign up for a copy of "Mims Roots" or will it be posted on the list? Hi Bob, I have Thomas Mims born February 1734/35 married to Mary Wright. I have they were married on December 23, 1756 in Saint James-Northam Parish, Goochland County, Virginia. His father was John Mims born March 3, 1703/04 and died November 7, 1779 and his mother Mary was born about 1706. John and Mary married in 1726. I have not researched any of this myself as I have not made it this far up the tree yet. I downloaded this from genealogy.com from Brandi Mims' files. Hope this helps Jim Mims Houston, TX

Hi Everyone, During my trip to Edgefield in June my Dad an I met Mrs. Suzanne Mims Derrick, editor of The Edgefield Advertiser and a descendant of Drury Mims. She has graciously volunteered to help with a family reunion and offered to have her house (formerly Matthew Mims' s, son of Drury Mims, house) available for use. Mrs. Sally Norris, also a descendant of Drury Mims will try to get the Norris Family interested. The Tompkins Library President, Dr. Connie McNeill, has offered to open the library to us. A tour of the town site would be arranged. I was asked to help see if there may be an interest from those of us who are on the Mims list. There will probably be a fee involved to help cover some of the expenses. The fee would be based on how many people would be serious about attending. In the past efforts have failed but with local family help we could have a wonderful chance to gather information about our family as well as share info about our findings. There is a Bed and Breakfast in town, along with nearby RV/camping facilities. The recommended date is OCTOBER 23, 2004 which is a Saturday. Please e-mail me and I will collect the names and number of people planning to attend. I will create and forward a list to Mrs. Derrick and and gather more details of events planned and respond back to all who are interested. It really sounds like it will be fun so lets all try to attend. Jim Mims Houston, TX

Was your J M Mims the one that was a postmaster? I have a feeling the two John M Mims were related. Jan
Estella, I have a J.M. Mims from Red River County, Tex. There were two J.M. Mims in Clarksville, mine was John McIver Mims, lumber dealer, married to Mattie, daughter named Gertrude. He was born in 1849 at Fairfield, S.C. died in 1907 Clarksville, TX. If this is the right Mims I have much information on his family. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Estella Mims" <emo77@msn.com> To: <MIMS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 08, 2004 10:16 PM Subject: [MIMS,MIMMS,MIMBS] Texas Mims > Hello All, > > I am looking for information about Gideon Mims who died in Red River County, Texas about 1850. > There is a reference to him in the "Mims Leaves" freeing about 10 ten slaves and giving the rest of his estate to his sister Sarah Holman of Virginia. My wife is descended from him by his daughter Julia Ann. I've traced his political career in Virginia extensively, but have had no success with his ancestry. BTW, his tenure as president of the Council of State (which is why he acted as Lt. Gov. - there was no such office as Lt. Gov. at the time) is very interesting. He was acting as Lt. Gov. the week the British threatened Richmond in the War of 1812. Then, in the midst of a successful political career he simply vanished, apparently as he was moving to Kentucky. Terry Reigel
