    2. Ann Blomquist
    3. Hello, I believe that Williamson Mims actually had 3 wives. In the 1820 census, his children Elias (age 10) and Epsy (age 9) were a little old to be the children of the wife (age 16-26) in the household (though it is possible) Also, there is a significant gap in the ages in the 1820 children because there are also 2 much younger children who were probably the children of this second wife. In 1830, there was no wife in the household and there were young children. The second wife probably died 1828-1830. After 1830, Williamson married Cintha and they appear together in 1840 and 1850. This is what I believe the census records show, but I am willing to be contradicted if anyone has better evidence. This is not my Mims line and I have no additional information. 1. Thomas Mimms, s/o John, Goochland Co., VA
    2. Lilly
    3. John Wright (Goochland County Carpenter) purchased his land in Goochland County in 1739 from Robert Mimms with John and David Mimms as witnesses. Mary Wright, probable daughter of John the carpenter, married Thomas Mimms, son of John Mimms, on Dec 23, 1765, at Goochland County. I am interested in Mary Wright and her husband Thomas Mims/Mimms. I 'guess' he is Thomas, s/o John Mims b. May 3, 1705, s/o Thomas Mims, Jr, s/o Thomas the immigrant. This identification is a 'guess-timate', fell free to straighten me out. Is anyone interested in this couple? I may be able to help you with the WRIGHT ancestry. Best regards, Lilly Martin

    3. By the way, in my first e-mail this date I failed to state that I wrote a personal letter to Mr. Nance requested this grant be stopped and the building be saved. 3. I received a letter from Maceo Nance Director Community & Rural Development, South Carolina Department of Commerce on 1 Oct. 2004 stating that they had received q request from Bettis Rainsford, under the Freedom of Information Act, for copies of all correspondence received by the agency in support of or in opposition to the Edgefield application. Can anyone tell me the outcome of the event. 1. Mims reunion in Edgefield
    2. Betty Bivins
    3. Dear Mims cousins, Would some of you who attended the reunion and took pictures of graves please share your pictures with me? Please send them in jpeg format and not more than 2 a day because I live in Podunk and have the slowest Alltel phone line in the whole world. Alltel spends their money in third world countries putting in new phone lines. We live too far out in the woods for DSL. I have pictures of Drury Sr and Lydia's toombstones and the court house from a trip that my husband and I took several years ago. The pictues, which I shared with you, were taken before Drury's toombstone fell over. Thanks very much to Jim, his father and his Uncle for cleaning off the cemetery and repairing the grave. I wish that some of us were rich and could leave an endowment to clean off this cemetery once a year. A long time ago, people used to meet at a cemetery, clean it off and eat lunch together. That was in the days before people from families became dispersed throughout the world. We are so sorry that we had to miss this event. I have been to Jim's web site and seen his pictures there. He has a great website. Thank you in advance for your time. betty in ga Descendant of Drury Mims Sr. Winnifred Mims Ware Henry Ware, Sr. Henry Ware, Jr. James Ware d 1856 in Twiggs Co GA

    3. In reply to Terry -- Not much help -- but for what it's worth - Rufus is a name used in my Mims family about the time of the Civil War. His father was Jefferson Augustus and Jefferson's father was David Spivey - whose father was Martin -- whose father I believe to be A Linah? Martin was from North Carolina; David was born in NC -- Martin served in the Revolution - from GA. My line (Jefferson's) moved to Gordon County, GA about 1850. Jefferson took his family to Terrell Co. (SW GA) for safety during the Civil War and two of the children - one of them being my Rufus - married Lees of that county in the early 1880's. After the war Jefferson went back to Gordon County. 2. I do not know if I am remembering this correctly or not, but I keep thinking that in the 1964 edition of the Funk and Wagnall's Encyclopedia, there was a little something on Linah Mims. I got rid of those encyclodedia's several years before I started genealogy. I remember my mother saying something about there being a Gov. or acting Gov. in her family and I looked up the name. I have kicked myself not keeping at least that one book. I am pretty sure that is the encyclopedia it was in, but, believe it or not, around the same time I got rid of those, I got rid of some that were about 20 or 30 years older than those. Paper mites had gotten into them. Jan

    2. At ancestry.com under Family and Local Histories There is an article titled Kentucky History 1922- History of Kentucky Vol.4 Biographies. There is a mention of Linah Mims this is what it states "Robert L. Cobb married Cornelia Mims , born in Virginia in 1804. She died at Paducah Kentucky in 1877, only surviving her husband a few months. She was the daughter of Linah Mims at one time acting Governor of Virginia to fill out an unexpected term." not sure if this helps at all Deb
