Hello all, For all you folks looking for info on Williamson Mims, take a look at this. I believe the John Mims here is his father. We have always had info that his father was from NC. We always had info that his wife Cynthnia was a Moses. Note the Moses connection here. Also there is info that Needham and Williamson Mims, whom I believe to be brothers, served as executors of the will of a Drury Mims in Jones County or Baldwin County, I forget which now, in about 1820. This info here is the first lead I have had to Wilkes County, Georgia. Everything else was to Warren County, Georgia. I now find out at this time that Warren County and Wilkes were the same. Therefore Laura and John and Beth, and my Nelda, I believe should work hard on this info for the line to John and to North Carolina. The Shadrack Mims mentioned is the father of Shadrack Mims of Autauga, AL, who was born in Lincoln County, GA in 1803. Lincoln was also a part of Wilkes County. I have known that there was a connection between Williamson and the Shadrack Mims group and this seems to be a starting place. Therefore let's use this info as a launching point to document these theories. I want to thank Linda for this great information. It could be great breakthrough. When Nelda and I go to Florida in July, We will go by the County Seat of Wilkes County, GA and see if we can dig up some more info. Thanks Again, Cliff Smith Husband of Nelda Mims Smith Arianna wrote: > "Early Records of Georgia vol1 and 2," Grace Gillam Davidson, 1932. > (Whole email is of this book) > > Originally Wilkes embraced all of Elbert county, cut off 1790, all of > Oglethorpe, cut off 1793, part of Warren, 1793, all of Lincoln, 1796, part > of Greene 1802, part of Talliaferro 1825 and 1828. > A List of Persons who have Applied to the Commissioners Appointed by his > Excellency Sir. What a Suprise! Thank You Leah for asking about the Rumph's I have a large file (32,000) that was sent to me several years ago by a William Mitchell. He sent his entire file(it goes back to Adam) because it had a Mims in it...Three to be exact.. I hate working in this file because every thing is entered backwards, everything is sorted by first name. Any way to make al long story shorter, I decided to see if he had Rumph and sure enough He did. I found Miss Eugenia Oliva Rumph Daughter of John and Mary Gholson Rumph and four generation back from her..Now I can give her a husband and family... But I still don,t know who James Samuel belongs to. Mims Folks: When I posted my line yesterday I forgot a generation. James Henderson Mims and Mary Ann Cross of Chatham Co. N.C. belong between Young Mims and Walter Henry Mims - for those of you that are interested. -Steve
I don't think there was a Relationship slot on the 1850 Fed. Census forms. I have not found a relationship listed on any of the ones I have copied. Boy howdy, it would sure help!!! I had better stop working when my eyes start to get tired. I am so sorry but I suppose I forget when I changed states, so here is a revision of the census. No relationship slot, I have copied all that I found, even the cannot read/write. A few of them were absolutely unreadable, but usually when a person was staying with another family. I have lucked out in copying the families so far. I will work on the Mims sisters soon as I am out of Mims men. I have to go back and find one of the ones done as I now realize the *M* in the slot was Mulatto, which I did leave out, thinking it was a W for white. At the time I was wondering why they were the only family they filled that in for until I found another *M* and realized it was not a W. Mavis, Due to your encouragement, I hope you have noticed I am now using *sources* whenever possible. :) Unfortunately, this time, I do not have a source, but in my index I simply have the name, Elizabeth as the spouse of the above mentioned Valentine Mims, b 1847, no date for her... and this is ALL there is on them. I will see what I can do since the Valentine name is not that numerous. Maybe this can help a little? Linda in KCMO
(As I view this email - it is "pretty" - hope it transmits that way.) Someone mentioned child-bearing years - My huge families (usually 10 ch) is prime example. Hello family: I have been with this list a couple of years now and am still not sure how my little part of the Mims fits in, but am sure they are in there somewhere. I just keep looking for a string to grab and hang on to.... but am ashamed to say that other than reading through your messages for familiar names, not much searching has been accomplished by me lately. My grandmother, Leila Blanche Mims (born 1893) had siblings Edward, Charles, Euston, Clyde. Their father, Thomas Wright Mims, m Amady E. Miller. Thomas' siblings were Mart, John, William, Rudolph, Mary. Their father, William Bill Mims, m Mary Box. His sibling was Joseph. Best I know, this all happened in South West Georgia. I am a licensed private investigator, a professional "people finder". You would think I would have stumbled across at least one of my ancestors in the past year, wouldn't you. But...if it were easy, we would all have all our answers. I appreciate the messages. There is a wealth of information there, and the sharing that I have seen in this group is amazing. God's Blessings to you all. Jim Poole ([email protected])

Hi Mims cousins, My name is Linda Ethridge and this is my lineage : Thomas m Ann? Thomas m Amelia Anne Millyann Martin David m Agnes (Wildy) Weldy Drury m Lydia Jones (Kate Shue and I are from the same but are still trying to prove this gmother) Anyone heard from Kate in a long time ? Winifred (Winnie) Mims m Henry Ware, Jr. John Mims Ware m Lucy Sturdivant Juliann (Julia Ann) Ware m James Francis Brown Christopher Black Brown m Mary Ann Meriwether and so on...... We have three wonderful children and 6 wonderful, smart, cute, pretty and handsome grandchildren. I am a TA and have dialysis three days a week for 4 hrs a day but that does not stop me from doing my "digging up bones" as my son calls it. I would love a Gedcom File. Thanks. If any one need any info on the Mims-Ware bunch let me know.
I can answer Linda's question about the first census below... The Sarah J. Tyler in the census was born Sarah Jane Mims, daughter of Linah and Rebecca Mims. I don't know anything else about Rebecca, but I know a lot about Linah. Unfortunately, I do not know who his parents were! (Someone told me it was Shadrack, but didn't answer my email when I asked for the reasoning/proof/guesswork behind that.) So, back to the census below... Sarah Jane Mims married Marcus M. Tyler on May 25, 1842 in Caldwell Co., KY. Some of the children on the census belong to Sarah's siblings. I guess everyone sent a kid or two to visit Aunt Sarah's at the time that the census was taken!?!? Anyway, Sarah had at least one brother, John Mims, and at least two sisters, Cornelia and Julia Mims. Her sisters Cornelia and Julia Mims married two Cobb brothers. But back to the census below: R. H. Cobb is Robeson, son of Cornelia Mims & Robert Cobb Irene Cobb is the daughter of Julia Mims & Joshua Cobb Linah M. Cobb is the son of Cornelia Mims & Robert Cobb I'm not sure who the last 3 kids on the census belonged to. They could be the children of an unknown brother of Sarah's - they've got the Mims surname. I am fairly sure that they are not the children of her one known brother, John H., because I've got his family well-documented. But of course I could be wrong about that - maybe they are his kids. I am a descendant of Sarah's sister Julia and would DESPERATELY like to know the parentage of their father, Linah. Consequently, their father is the Linah Mims that was the Lt. Gov. of Virginia for a time. The family lived in Lewisburg, VA, then Richmond, VA, then moved to Kentucky. I have a lot more information about them if anyone is interested. Hi Everyone, I am going to try this again. Have not found my Elizabeth anywhere. Elizabeth Mims was born April 18, 1822, in Georgia. She died in 1869 in Louisiana. Elizabeth married June 30, 1841, in Talbot County, Georgia to Jordan Clinton Brooks. Jordan was born Feb 20, 1819 in Georgia. He died 1870 in Chourdant, {Jackson Parish } Louisiana. Can anyone connect Elizabeth to a Mims family? Thanks for any help that can be given. Laurie
OK, Williamson was married to Mrs Cynthia Culpepper (maiden name) Moses (husband's name). How was she related to Francis Edna Culpepper who was married to Williamson's son Seaborn Shadrack? And who has the born and died detail on Cynthia Culpepper Moses Mims? -----Original Message----- From: Joe & Laura Schmidt [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, March 29, 2000 6:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MIMS-L] James E. Yaha!! I found my George D. Mimms from Clarksville, Tn on the GEDCOM file!! He is the son of Shadrach Mims who was born in VA (but died in Todd County, KY.). I'm excited. Even saw a record of his marriage to Sally Wisdom in 1849. Thanks for the lead. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, 29 March, 2000 10:58 AM Subject: [MIMS-L] Mims Gedcom file >About Our file.. > >It is an updated file of what you will find on Jon Kelly,s web page. > >When we started this list 4 years ago I started keeping a file of all >the Mims name that were posted to the list and as time went by we were >able to start these linking Families together .What I have now is a fie >of 6,200 MIMS all descendants of the first Thomas 1635 and wife Anne ? >Mims This is the Hard work and generosity of the group..I only keep the >names and dates.
