I hope this is not an imposition on anyone. Where possible, may I request we all try to add at least a state name to data sent through list; i.e. b. 1700NC d. 1780GA or, (1700NC-1780GA) or, my preference (1700 Duplin Co., NC-1780 Echols Co.,GA) I have been guilty of omitting this, but now I find my old tired brain cells have a hard time maneuvering forward, then backward on lines, trying to discover a state (county is a bonus) name to surname information. With the MIMS allied surnames, I have to bounce between NINE different files, since there a few in them all! In case anyone is interested, the surname files are: JOYNER, LEE, MIMS, NASH, REGISTER, TOMLINSON, TOUCHTON, WALKER, and WATSON .... so far! Blessings, Mavis -- Rachel Mavis Tomlinson-Mims "Care enough to share" RR 11, Box 556, Lake City, FL 32024 USA - DAR-791667 Echols: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaechols/index.html Family: http://www.isgroup.net/userpage/mims/family.html Surname: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~tomtwig/index.html
I am still searching for Bunyan Tally Mims. Does anyone know where Bunyan Tally Mims was after the Civil War. He is the youngest son of Calvin Mims and Elizabeth Ball. The family left Georgia before 1860 and went to Desoto Parish, Louisiana. Some of them served in the Civil War from Louisiana. Wanda Ellis [email protected]
Mavis I found some sources for Brittain. I only have Grace's father as Stephen. Do we have anymore names because it has the name Brittain NC abt 10 times. I have to send for the info. There are quite a few William Brittains NC. Do you think this could be our line? Jeanne
Hello List: I was wondering if any one has any idea who the father of Thomas, who married Sarah, having James R., T.V. (Thomas Valentine?) and Jesse. Originally from AL, settled in Santa Rosa Co, FL. On a related note, does anyone have info on Valentine Mims, b. @1747, m. Elizbeth. If T.V. is Thomas Valentine, possibly connected??? Leah
Jeanne, That was all I had too. While going through some of my surname files, I've come across JOYNER as one of my direct lines to NC. I think this name is also found as JOINER, which we know is connected with REGISTER and MIMS - also VALENTINE and BRITTON. It gets so confusing. I would like to concentrate on one surname line, but thanks to the computer age, it is impossible. Today, I got Revolutionary War data on one of my lines, a GEDCOM of Tomlinson line requesting corrections, emails with new photos of my grands which they want to see on their webpage, and then the GEDCOM from Ann, TMIMS. Should I try to get off this fast train now? Does anyone else wake up in the AM, tired from "comparing data" all night ..... <grin> I gave up trying to keep on top of the wonderful MIMS-L sharing - I'm up to 56 pages of emails saved in a hard drive file! Happy hunting, Mavis ------------------- Jeanne Filice wrote: > Mavis > I found some sources for Brittain. I only have Grace's > father as Stephen. Records of Pickens County Alabama vol1 pg 76 Robert Jemison, Sr., lawyer, business man, member of the State Legislature and State Senate; also a member of the Alabama Sucession Committee. He was born in Lincoln County, Georgia September 17, 1802 and died in Tuscaloosa, Alabama October 17, 1871. He was the son of William Jemison and Sarah Mims of Twiggs County, Georgia and grandson of Robert Jemison and Margaret Kirkman of Philadelphia, Pa., who moved to Augusta, Georgia before the Revolutionary War. Robert Jemison, Sr. attended the University of Georgia and to Alabama with his family, about 1826, locating first in Pickens County, until 1836 when he moved to Tuscaloosa, where he married Priscilla Cherokee, daughter of Greenberry Taylor and Elizabeth Virginia Meter of Mobile, Alabama. Sally Mims Jemison named one of her sons Shadrack Mims Jemison. Linda in KCMO
For what it's worth, I think.... Shadrach Mims and Elizabeth Kirkham were the parents of Sally Mims who m William Jemison. They were also the parents of David Mims who m Sophie Moles Addison. Their parents died in 1804 and 1814 respectively, David being about 7 years old and Sally was already married and 29 years old. It is natural to believe that she raised her brother, David, who with William Jemison as a stepfather figure, named one of his children, William Jemison Mims. Linda in KCMO

Joy; I have the same info that you do. I got mine from the Charleston Hist.Soc.Library "The DuBose Family" that is in print there. Its a pretty good size book. I took the info out and then either forwarded it to some one else or threw it out since its not my line and files were really getting full. We are going back to Charleston in May. I was looking on the web today and found some confusing info. I originally thought Shadrach Mims, JR was the father of William McPherson Mims. Now I looked through quite a few ged com files that say this: William McPherson Mims was born in 1834 in Mississippi and married Kathleen De Jarnette. His parents are listed in all of the files as: David Mims (May 22, 1807 Georgia-?)(David's father as Shadrach Mims,SR) and Sophia Moles Addison (1810 Autuaga Co, AL-?). Now the info I had on William McPherson Mims was that he was born Feb 23, 1835 in Vernon, Autuaga,AL and died in 1898 and was married to Mary M. Dubose. This William's father I had listed as Shadrach Mims, JR.And I have their children listed as : Harrison Mims John Mims William E. Mims Robert L Mims Mary L. Mims Thomas Mims Lavinia Mims Peter J. Mims (m. April 28, 1870 in Charleston,SC)(m. Olivia C. Murray) Caroline Mims Richard Mims (b. 1844/ d.1916) (m.Eugenia Olivia Smith) Nathaniel Mims Joseph Mims Miles Edward Mims (d. 1923, SC?)(m. Lillian R. Ayers) Malory Mims Does anyone have any proof on this line? Were there 2 William McPherson Mims?? You know, there was a 3rd Shadrach Mims born in 1837 in Miss and married in 1868 to Mary J. Paxton. He was the son of Shadrach Mims, Jr. of course. So, SHadrach Mims, JR and David Mims as seen above were brothers. Is it possible they both had sons and named them William McPherson Mims? Hope somebody knows! Well, how about this one. The records that were sent to me for William McPherson Mims' family note at the end this (exactly as written): ....1850: Prattville, Autuaga County, Alabama census Mother's death: South Carolina Baptist Marriages/Deaths. Died at residence of her son-in-law William M. Mims, Mary DuBose, age 72 years.... I am reading this wrong or what? Are they talking about Mary DuBose died at the residence of her son-in-law, William M. Mims at the ages of 72??? Does anyone have proof that Mary Dubose and William McPherson Mims were married and their birth and death dates AND their children? I am trying to prove the info that I have on them. Thanks!
