    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UGB.2ACI/1617.1 Message Board Post: This is from Henry Shaw Noble's obituary in the Record-Commercial, Thurs. October 22, 1908: .."Mr. Noble was married twice, first to Miss Delia Vrooman, and second to Miss Margaret Grant who survives him. By his first marriage he had one daughter, now the mother of two children, Dr. Kenneth Noble of Milan, and Miss Helen Hamilton of Detroit...he was born in Monroe, December 19, 1839, and was the son of Hon. David A. Noble, a pioneer of this county..." Dr. Kennth Noble's obituary was in the Monroe Evening News, Sept. 15, 1952: "Milan: Dr. Kenneth Noble, 69, physician at Milan for 48 years and chairman of Monroe County war price and rationing board for 18 months, died yesterday in his home at 128 E. Main St. here, after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Stevens and Bush funeral home here, where the body will lie in state until then. Burial will be in Marble Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Leroy Caggabe will officiate. Born in Monroe May 13, 1883, he was the son of Frank and Sarah Hamilton (sic). At an early age he was adopted by his maternal grandfather, Henry Shaw Noble, whose parents were early settlers of Monroe and for whom Noble Ave. was named. He was confirmed in childhood in the Episcopal church. In May, 1904, he was graduated from the Detroit College of Medicine, now Wayne University, and located in Milan the following October. He was a member of the Phi Rho Sigma fraternity. He married Berthia (sic) Blackmer Scheunight, who survives, Feb. 28, 1907. Dr. Noble was named to the war price and rationing board about 1942 and became chairman in April 1943. He was credited with performing his task conscientiously and well, serving until his resignation in December, 1944. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Henry B. and David W. of Lansing; three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Draper of Detroit, Miss Margaret at home and Mrs. Berneth McKercher of Nashville, Mich; one sister, Mrs. Helen Percy of Pontiac; one half-sister, four half-brothers, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews." Hope this helps some.

    1. [MIMONROE] Re: Inventory of St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe, MI??
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UGB.2ACI/1716.3 Message Board Post: There are several St. Joseph cemeteries in Monroe County- St. Joseph, Erie; St. Joseph, Ida; St. Joseph, Monroe and St. Joseph, Maybee. With those surnames you are probably referring to St. Joseph, Monroe. The Genealogical Society of Monroe County, Michigan members walked the different cemeteries in Monroe county 20 years ago and wrote down the vital information off of the readable tombstones. I did St. Joseph's Monroe, which has mostly the burials of St. Mary's, St. John the Baptist, St. Joseph, St. Michael, Monroe and other mainly Catholic church burials. I recently rewalked the cemetery, and re-did the project. There are over 10,000 readable tombstones (and this doesn't count the unreadable and unmarked, which would add several thousand again, we believe.) The older list and update is available for researching at the Monroe County Library System branch Ellis in Monroe, and at the Monroe County Historical Museum archives, in Monroe. It is not for internet use, only private! use. Use the church records in conjunction with the tombstone information. The Catholic church records have been microfilmed by the Archidiocese of Detroit and are available for public use at the Ellis branch library. Good luck.

Henry and Sarah had the following children in my list: Stephan, 1858, Clarise 1864, Jacob 1866, Sherman, March 1870, and a James S. that was possibly the same person as Sherman. I have additional documentation, such as Sarah's tombstone, the 1870 census, and Sarah's short obit. Let me hear from you.
