He apparently was married first to a Matilda Menard in 1864, who then died in 1873. He then married a Magdeline Manor the same year. This second wife is supposedly my ancestor. Yet the 1880 census states his wife as Matilda...any clarifying information would be greatly appreciated.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UGB.2ACI/1758 Message Board Post: Looking for information on the family of my GGrandmother. Here's the little bit that I know: (from the 1900 census, Elk Co., KS): born Jan 1833 in NY, father born in MA, mother born in CT (from the 1903 "History of North Idaho", biographical sketch of her son James Ferree): "Her parents were pioneers in Monroe County, Michigan." (from the Monroe Co., MI, marriage records): married Frederick Ferree 31 Aug 1848 in Monroe Co., MI Here are some other Watkins facts that I've collected: (from the BLM web site): Land patents to the following Watkins in Monroe Co., MI all in 1835-1839: Nathan, Orrin, Stephen, Jason Jr., and Aaron B. Nathan was "of Ontario County, New York". The rest were of various counties in Michigan. I'm guessing that one of these was Deborah's father. (from the Ontario Co. GenWeb page): Naples, Ontario Co., NY, was originally called "Watkinstown" from Wm. Watkins, of Berkshire Co., MA, one of the earliest settlers along with Nathan Watkins. Nathan seems to be a popular name in the Watkins family. Based on dates found on this site there were at least three generations of Nathan Watkins. A number of other Watkins are also listed on this site. That's about all the information that I have at present. But to someone out there, this all fits right in with what you have. I'd love to meet you. I have lots of information about Deborah's descendants to share.

If all else fails, the Archives in Monroe would have the information you are looking for. If you have found the information you are looking for in the next couple of weeks, I'll be happy to look up the information on my next trip.

    1. [MIMONROE] Beer/Found the Info but would love census info
    2. Bakers
    3. Just to let everyone know, after a long time, a very dear friend of mine in Erie made a few calls for me to the Museum in Monroe and the Ellis Library and over the phone she was able to find that my Mary Bailey did marry (not a Henry) but a Thomas Beer. Between the museum and the library they knew where they were buried and even had obits they are sending. Wonderful service. I've dealt with the Ellis Library myself some time ago and they were wonderful in providing copies of the actual baptism from St. Antoine's on the River Raisin for my gr grandma and some of her siblings. I love the genealogy services in Monroe County! Anyone who was trying to look up anything for me thank you but I've got the information. Although I still would not mind a census look up for 1920 in Monroe. Mary and Thomas Beer or Beers, they lived at Harrison St. in Monroe. I am not sure when they were married but I guess there would be a possibility of finding them also in the 1910. Thanks again. Kathy Baker

    1. [MIMONROE] Beer Marriage
    2. Bakers
    3. I finally came across the name of the Beer that my Mary Bailey married, in Monroe, Michigan. Henry Beer! Would anyone be able to check any sort of census in Michigan beginning 1910, or marriage index or anything which might list Mary Bailey and Henry Beer or as a married couple. I know my uncle told me that his "Aunt Mamie Beer" used to come over to Toledo from Monroe in a big limo and she was quite wealthy. That's about all I know. And that Mary Bailey was born in 1870 and showed up as a single in 1900 so she must have married after 1900. I'd appreciate anything anyone could provide. Thanks. Kathy Baker, Rome, Italy

    1. [MIMONROE] A Genealogy Scam is back
    2. Mike Cunningham
    3. The following was copy & pasted from the VTBENNIN-L list. at Rootsweb QUOTE. The old genealogy scam is back. www.genseekers.com Behind the password protection are links to the free genealogy on-line. There is no content of their own. In order to get the "5-day free trial" you have to surrender a credit card or bank account number. You have to cancel within 5 days or you get dinged. Guess what? The cancellation e-mail bounces. Does this surprise you? One person who recently fell for the come-on had his/her account dinged not once, but twice. It is time to remind folks on your state and county mailing lists about these scoundrels. It has been a couple of years since we have mentioned this. Permission is granted to pass this on. ==== VTBENNIN Mailing List ====
