Sargent township is in Wayne County. I don't believe it exists anymore. I believe my Cooley's went from Wayne county to Monroe county but I don't know what township they may have settled in. If you have info. on Gideon, Charles, or Calvin Cooley I would be very interested in what you have. I know there were a lot of Cooleys who married French women. My Cooleys are English and were already married when they left Canada. Unless a spouse died and there was a remarriage the French Cooleys I don't believe are part of my line. Thanks Chris.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UGB.2ACI/1714.1 Message Board Post: Hi, My name is Chris (Christine) LeCheminant I am a Cooley descendant and I have done a little research in Michigan. I am descended from Gideon Sr. Cooley who is the son of Benjamin Cooley from Longmeadow Mass. Gideon and his half Bro. Benjamin left Mass. and went to Vermont, Benjamin stayed in Vermont in 1796 Gideon and 4 of his 5 sons left Vermont and went to Ontario Canada. In 1802 two of Gideons sons, Gideon Jr. and Calvin left Canada and went to Sargant township, Monroe County Michigan. We know Gideon was married and had children. We don't know what the names are. We don't know if Calvin was married or not. It was a common practice to name sons after the fathers father or after uncles. It is possible that your Benjamin could be a son of Gideon or Calvin the dates would be about right. I don't know if this will help or not. Good luck with your research. Chris.
