Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RGB.2ACI/404.1 Message Board Post: Tom, I have the same situation in my research into my wife's family. Her ggr Frederick Naumann and his brother emigrated to Newton Township in Manitowoc County in 1854, and their sons John and Henry (and maybe others) are found in Menominee Co MI in the 1890s--Henry married Maggie Straka in 1891, and John m Anna Straka in 1894. There were Strakas in Manitowoc Co as well but I can't connect them with Anna or Maggie. Sometime in the 1890s these two couples moved to Green Bay. I lost track of Henry and Maggie in 1905 but have tracked John and Anna for the rest of their lives, John dying in 1947 and Anna in 1956. Lumbering was *the* big deal in northern WI and the UP of Michigan at the time, although I don't have many specifics. It would have been simple to take a steamboat from Manitowoc to Marinette in the winter--thousands did it. I would look forward to more details here from others.
