This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ANDERLE, YANDA, JANDA Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RGB.2ACI/391.1 Message Board Post: I am looking for information related to the Anderle's and the Janda/Yanda's. They were both in Wisconsin around early 1900, but ended up in Michigan by 1930. The information I have is as follows: George Anderle (b 4/15/1876 in Czech, d 11/1963 in Michigan) m 8/13/1901 in Kewaunee, Wisconsin Mary Margaret Janda (b 1880 in Czech, d ?) Mary's last name is Janda on the marriage index, but Yanda on her sons social security application. They had seven children in the 1930 census (Menominee, MI): George Anderle, Jr (b 6/27/1907) ? M Anderle (b 1911) James (b 1913) Jacob (b 7/25/1914 in MI, d 4/30/1998 in MI) Albena (b 1918) Vernon (b 1922) Erving (b 1923) I have requested the marriage record from Kewaunee County, but have not received a response yet. I ordered the Social Security application (SS-5), but apparently they "misplaced" his application and sent a different form saying it was the only thing on file. The form they sent did not request parents names and had the birth place listed as "unknown". If anyone has ANY information along this line, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Sarah

Hi all, I was just wondering if there is any place on the web that has the Menominee County 1900 & 1910 census on line for public viewing. I do not subscribe to Ancestry.com (not in my stay-at-home-mom budget this year!). I'd like to find my great grandpa in these records. Thanks everyone, Cammie Jordan
Hi What a wonderful exercise! Thankyou! Civil War: Peter McKeever, Wisconsin 23rd Infantry. Served from 1861 to 1865 wounded in the line of duty, but do not know where. Spanish Amer. Oldest of the 15 children of my immigrant Norwegian grandparents. All 5 of their sons served their country during war time. Arnold served in France, discharged honorably, never married died of pneumonia in 1929....family stories relate his death to gases used in France. Charles Jesse Jones, my step father, served his country in France. World War II: My dad, Edward Herbert Tomseth, US Army, 529th engineers, light pon- toon division. Served 1941 to 1945. Phillipines, Vietnam: Praise God, all the men I know who served in Nam are living. There are 10 of them....all bear the effects of this awful conflict. Gulf War: Regina .......RN, friend, co-worker who was one of the first reserve units of nurses called up and the last unit to return from Saudi Arabia. She served her country in active duty status for 17 mo. She has 4 children and a husband who prayerfully and patiently waited for her return. She has not been well since her time of service. Thankfully I have no one close to me serving in the present conflict. Joy
I have to say that is a hard challenge but I will give it a try. First I will start with the first war, The Revolutionary War, in the United states. Philip Bastian, out of PA, and Jacob Miller, out of PA, fought in that war. And of course we must not forget George Washington and Paul Revere served in that war as well. The next War would be The Civil War: I have a few for that one. Daniel Pillars and Joseph Pillars served under Captian Milroy. In the Unit known as the Bloody Ninth. out of Indiana. From what I have read about the unit it was one of the worse and best unit out during that time and was the only Unit to recieved their colors during battle. James Seward and George Seward and Thomas Seward served in a Deleware Unit. First was for 3 months gaurding the railroad and then a longer term in another unit. And I believe Stephen B. Davis was also in the Civil war. He came out of a Unit from Wisconsin. The next war is WWI and WWII there both My Grandfathers Emil Johnson and Leonard Porath served. I don't know much about either being in the war except that Grandpa Porath was a Bugler. Edwin Johnson (an Uncle) died January 1, 1945. They had just recieved a letter from him and then a day or so later recieved news he was shot and killed in action. He left a new born baby and wife. He was driving a jeep when his unit was attacked and killed. Then my uncle Leroy was in WWII. James Bastian was also in the service(my great granfather) He lost his mother Julia in childbirth at a very young age (2 yrs) and was raised by his father who never remarried. and Uncle Howard was in the war. There is also a friend of mine whose father was in the war. In vietnam war there was Roland Peterson and a few others that I cannot remember the names on as well as a few I cannot name since they still live. As you know you have the well known people like George Washington, Paul Revere, General Grant and General Lee to name some. This was diffucult since many I know that are vetrans are still alive and well. Hope this works. In the Censuses 1900, 1910 and 1920 I have found a farmer August Lindgren (Lindgreen) in Meyer township, Menominee county. He was born February 1853 in Sweden. According to the census 1900 he was married to Sophie, and they had four or five children, Agnes, Georgie, Ida, David and probably also Verner (Vernon). Has anybody more information on August Lindgren? or on his wife Sophie, born February 1868, and she died before 1910. Thanks, Irma Ridback
Hi Jack & Marianne, Would there happen to be a marriage date for Anton Kenninger & Maria Sager? I've been told they were married in September 1881, but don't have an exact day & I don't know where they were married. I'd look it up myself, but the site keeps saying "Page cannot be found". I have been looking for information on this Kenninger family for awhile, but I've had no luck. I know this family lived in Birch Creek, Michigan at one time (in 1882) & Grand Rapids, MI (1884) and finally Daggett, Michigan. Thanks, Cammie Jordan
My grandfather Imre Batari or James Batary was living with his sister's family, the Stephen Kiszely, in Mellen township, Menominee County, during the 1930 census. The Kiszelys are buried in Stephenson Cemetery. It is my understanding that Imre is also buried there, but without a headstone. The Cemetery custodian said that the records are sketchy and he has not been able to find any record of the grave. I contacted the Menominee County Clerks office and was told that they have not record of his death in the 1930's, or 1940s, which is when I believe he died. Does anyone have information about him? I saw a small article in the Thursday USAToday regarding Eino who was a 13 month old victim of the Titanic disaster. If anyone is interested, just email me and I will send a copy. I know there are some Titanic buffs out there. And I think it could be assumed the Finnish family could have been coming to our area. ...Kathleen http://freepages.cultures.rootsweb.com/~kernow/kc1.htm
Hello I was wondering if anyone would know which paper I might be able to find the obit for my great Uncle Robert Walker who is listed in 1920 and 1930 census as living in Menominee, Michigan. I know he died prior to my grandfather who died in 1944. I have found his daughter in the Social Insurance Death index he information is as follows: Katherine R. Walker Birth June 30, 1902 Date of death : August 17, 1985 Place of Death : Menominee, Michigan. As far as I know my Great Aunt Lillian died prior to my Uncle. There was another child and his name was Robert Walker and he was born in approximately 1908., I am very sorry but I am not familar with the area. Does anyone know how I could find their obit or the cemetery where they are buried. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this e mail Linda Ottawa, ontario, Canada

Hi everyone, November is the month of the veteran ~ someone to whom we all owe a "thank you." In honor of these brave men and women who serve to protect us, I challenge the entire list to tell us something about (at least) 20 veterans from our county who served during any time period, whether they saw combat or not. This is a group effort, not an individual one. Kindly remember ~ as much as we owe our living veterans a "thank you," we do not discuss them here. This is for their and their family's safety, Only those who have passed on count towards the 20. This ought to keep you busy! :-D Colleen
