    3. Wow! Thanks for the quick response. Do you live in Menominee or are you familiar with that part of the city? If not, you can disregard the following two paragraphs .... At some time I would like to drive up to Menominee from Madison WI to do research and take a look at the location where 305 Somerville Ave once existed. "Microsoft Streets and Trips" software shows that going east towards the lake, 12th Ave ends at 6th Street. I'm wondering what now exists in that area that used to include the 3rd block of Somerville? Maybe the blocks were numbered differently back then, but according to today's mapping of streets, the 300 block would extend between 3rd & 4th Street. The 1897 Menominee City Directory indicated that Somerville Ave extended from the 300 block to the 1500 block. Back then , the Norwegian Lutheran Church was at 314 Somerville Ave. Thanks again, Donna, for the info. - Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donna" <lapdoggie@new.rr.com> To: <MIMENOMI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 08, 2003 3:42 PM Subject: Re: [MIMENOMI] Where is Somerville Ave in Menominee? > Somerville Ave is the present day 12th Avenue > > > ==== MIMENOMI Mailing List ==== > To post messages to the Menomini County, MI discussion list, send them to > MIMENOMI-L@rootsweb.com > >

    3. Cliff, I just got a reponse from someone who indicated that.... "Somerville Ave is the present day 12th Avenue." But I would also like to determine exactly where 305 Somerville Ave used to be, since according to a current city map, 12th Avenue extends from 22nd down to 16th Street, and then again from 11th Street, ending at 6th Street. There is a large area where there are no streets until one reaches 1st Street. Perhaps what used to be the 300 block of Somerville is now a large park or owned by a huge corporation. I think I'll try the library. Thanks for the suggestion. - Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "cmag" <cmag@prodigy.net> To: <MIMENOMI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 08, 2003 4:08 PM Subject: Re: [MIMENOMI] Where is Somerville Ave in Menominee? > Hi Bob > > I just ran into the same problem, seems like all the "Named" streets were > changed to "Numbers" sometime after the 1930 Census. 3. Hi Bob I just ran into the same problem, seems like all the "Named" streets were changed to "Numbers" sometime after the 1930 Census. Many of my ancestors immigrated to Menominee in 1880's and 90's. I have been in touch with: Amber Allard Spies Public Library Menominee, MI 49858 906-863-3911 splill@uproc.lib.mi.us And she has been very helpful on giving me the present street number from the name.
