    3. hmmm - do you know where abouts in Mecosta County that Henry lived? Guess I should have added that to the Thanksgiving message. My fault here, as that would help enormously and I didn't think. <sigh> Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: <RBates3174@aol.com> > My one ancestor would be Henry Walker, who lived in Mecosta County from > the > 1860's until he died. 3. Who was Robert Roy Rogness: http://www.ancientfaces.com/mystery/photos/details/index.cfm?14641 <http://www.ancientfaces.com/mystery/photos/details/index.cfm?14641/> <http://www.familyorigins.com/users/s/t/i/Mary-Lee-Stickney/> / My name is Mary Lee Rogness; I was born in Iowa City Iowa. I am looking for information on my father who died when I was 2. His name is Robert Roy Rogness, born 02/15/1927, died 11/22/1963.He married my Mother in 1957 in Iowa City Iowa. I am getting conflicting information as to what his parents names are. He would not talk about his side of the family to my mother. He would get mad and change the subject, every time she brought it up. He would only say he was born in Gold Stone Montana and his mothers name was Rose. I ordered a birth certificate from Montana, and there was not one on file. I also ordered a birth certificate from Michigan and there was not one there either. He applied for his Social Security Card in Rugby North Dakota on May 25,1954. On his Social Security SS5 application it says: He was born Big Rapids Michigan Father: Robert John Rogness Mother: Alice McKinzie DOB 02/15/1927 On his and my Mothers marriage certificate it says: He was born Gold Stone Montana Father: Gulleck Sven Rogness Mother: Rose Swenson DOB 02/15/1927 My mother met my father in 1956 , they went to the First Church of the Nazrene. They were married up until he died in 1963. He left my mother with 3 kids , 2,4, and 6 years old, and 8 months pregnant with a fourth. My youngest brother was born 2 weeks after our dad died. We drew death benefits from that SS# , so I know it is the correct one. We lived at1205 S. Riverside Drive, Iowa City Iowa, up until he got to sick to work. Then we moved to 603 1st avenue, Iowa City Iowa. He was there 2 months then had to be put in a nursing home, until he died. He died the same day as Kennedy was assassinated. In July 1958 he told my Mom that they were going to move, they loaded up the truck and drove to Caldwell Idaho. My mother remembers that he cried on the way there. Taking my oldest brother who was 11 months old , they stayed in a Motel for a week. He left my mother adn brother in the motel and was gone everyday for 8-10 hours. I have been told (by my uncle of course), that he bought and sold guns. he also told me this story: My Dad and my grandfather were in a bar. After my dad left ,a guy came up to my grandfather and told him "I knew Bob, when he lived in California and had 4 kids. My uncle also used to ride with my dad in the moving van (American Red Ball), my dad was always looking for a place that had Western Union services. Also , when my father was in the hospital with the brain tumor that killed him, some lady called our house looking for him, several times. I do not know any of his family. If he has brothers or sisters.Where he went to school. My father used to write to the Government allot. My uncle was at our house one day when he got a reply from the White house. To a letter he had written, saying "So and So" was worse than Hoffa". My uncle could not remember the So and so's name. I know nothing except that he was in or around Rugby ND in1954. <http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=stickneys > http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=stickneys <http://www.genealogy.com/users/r/o/g/Mary-L-Rognessstickney/> http://www.genealogy.com/users/r/o/g/Mary-L-Rognessstickney/ Stickneys Toy Breed Retirement Sanctuary-Cortland, Nebraska Rescue is about the good, the bad, the ugly and the old, the deaf, and the blind. 1. Walker family
    2. I am researching my gr-gr-grandfather, Henry Walker who was in the 1870 and 1880 Mecosta County census. I found him in the Austin Township living either with or beside his son Wilmert Walker. Both were born in Canada West and since I can't find them in the 1860 census, moved to Mecosta County sometime in the 1860's. Wilmert moved to Illinois sometime after 1880 but Henry wasn't with him. I would appreciate any help with this family. Henry also had two daughters in Mecosta County, Patience Walker Marsh and Angeline Walker Wheeler. Thank you Lynne in Oklahoma

    1. [MIMECOST] Eaton County Genealogical Society Seminar
    2. Jan Sedore
    3. If you have not sent in your registration for the Eaton County Genealogical Society Seminar on 17 April 2004. Fawne was with us last year and we had many requests to bring her back so that she could share some more of her wonderful information and insight with us. I would ask that you forward this to your friends that might be interested. Seating will be limited so don't miss out. The deadline has been extended until April 10th. After that date you should check for availability. Go to our website at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~miecgs/workshop2004.htm> for further information. This year's annual workshop is sure to be a full day of important information. Both primary records and online sources will be discussed at length. Prepare yourself now for a summer of research by arming yourself with the most up-to-date information. CROWN LAND RECORDS For those who attended last year's workshop and heard Fawne speak on Land Registry Office records you will know the importance of understanding land records. This year Fawne will tell us all about crown land records - those lands that brought immigrants to a new world in search of free government land! For those who did not attend last year but have those ancestors that you cannot find before they come to Michigan, they may well have spent time in Ontario working for a grant of crown land to no avail before coming here. Many thousands of early settlers in the province inhabited crown lands through renting, leasing, squatting, government grants and sales. However, hundreds and even thousands of these early settlers never received the actual patent to the land from the government. Fortunately, records of the initial request for land, or attempts to settle crown land were still generated. In some instances, these records represent the only evidence of a settler's existence in the province before they died or moved on to other areas of Canada or the US. This discussion will provide researchers with a sound understanding of the land granting process, the availability of a variety of crown land records and resources. This is an important source of records for anyone doing Ontario research. USING MAPS IN FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH Maps are critical research tools for family history research. Maps both old and new are important resources to help researchers track down facts about their families; offer the names of individual landowners or residents; show the location of a home on a specific lot; illustrate the relationship of settlers to local institutions; reveal changing place names and; even show changes in the boundaries of nations, provinces, counties, administrative areas (important to early record keeping). An understanding of geographic locations and the relationships illustrated with maps will help family historians locate potential sources of records about their families. This lecture will both explain and visually illustrate the importance of maps for family history research. By attending this year's workshop you will also have an opportunity to see copies of rare Ontario maps. ONLINE SOURCES FOR FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH Are you trying to do your research online? This session will provide an overview of helpful online resources for researching your family history. Particular attention is given to finding primary sources online and information for those searching in the ancestral homelands of England, Ireland, Scotland and Europe. What tools are there to help you? What obstacles will you encounter? What pitfalls should you watch for? Discover how to connect your primary research with online resources and information. Due to the popularity of this lecture, it has been expanded beyond the 1 hour allotted during the workshop which means participants will receive even more valuable information than originally planned. It also means the schedule for the day could run a little bit over. Don't miss this important information to help you search online effectively! FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH IN THE 21ST CENTURY Today we stand as participants and witnesses to the infant years of a new century and a new millennium. In the same way that technology has revolutionized the way we live, the hobby (or should we say "obsession") of family history is also in the throws of revolutionary change. But what does this mean to the way in which we conduct our research? More importantly, what will be the legacy of modern family historians for future generations? This session is designed to help researchers identify and balance the information and resources available both online and in traditional institutions in order to make the most of them and ensure that our family history research is a lasting legacy for future generations
