    3. yes as well as other variants.. you must only give it at try... if you fail, then as of the list.... many will offer ideas for queries... the big thing is most historical sites that deal with genealogy have the word GENEALOGY in their website SOMEWHERE, so entering that plus the state or place should do it... if two word states put it in "north dakota" RED SEA.... this is interesting... I would pursue this... thru the red sea enroute to the USA.... ----- Original Message ----- From: amdg0195 To: .... valentine53179 ; MIMARQUE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, July 21, 2003 5:30 PM Subject: Re: [MIMARQUE] Births and Marriages Does this same formula work for other places ? My great grandparents moved to Republic in County of Marquette, State of Michigan and my great grandfather would have worked in the mines . He came from the mining town of Alston in Cumberland England. I believe that they probably arrived in Republic when my grandmother [bn 1876] was aged about 6 yrs old . My elderly Uncle speaks of his late mother recalling their arrival in New York but that is as much knowledge as we have. I have the photo of a family friend taken in Marquette but have no idea who she was - probably she was a school friend of my grandmother. I assume that she would have attended school there for a year or two. She was certainly able to read and write - she died in 1940. In 1884 her sister LEAH was born in Republic but I have to date no proof of that except from her descendant family who live in Australia. Her date of birth was 3 March 1884. I do not know where she was registered but probably in County of Marquette ? MY great grandparents HUGH Spottiswood[e][ bn 25 Mar 1850 Skelgill Plains Northumberland England } and his wife ANNIE [nee Woodmass, bn 1852 Alston Cumberland England] apparently went back to England sometime after LEAH was born at a guess sometime in 1885 as a son Fred was born somewhere.......... maybe Republic or maybe England . Another child margaret was born in 1887 and she became ill and died on the ship during passage through the RED SEA. My grandmother was aged 10 years when they emigrated to Queensland, Australia on the Duke of Buccleuch. They moved around a little - from mining town to mining town and fimally settled at Mt Morgan QLD where the family house is still lived in etc- not by family- and they are buried in the cemetery opposite. Any information on the above family welcomed - their religous affiliation was most probably Methodist. If there is a Methodist Church in the area would someone have the address of it and the name of the current minister ?
