    2. Kathleen
    3. I am looking to fill out my family with cousins and more cousins. Elijah Roberts was my great-great-grandfather who was in the 1864 Portage Township Civil War ennumeration with his brother Thomas. Elijah was married to MaryAnne Hooper in Chacewater, Cornwall, England. Thomas married Mary Jane Porter in 1867 in Houghton County. In January 1867 Elijah and Mary Anne had a son in Houghton County, Elijah Hooper Roberts. In the 1870 census both Elijah and Thomas were in Ishpeming Township, Marquette County. Thomas was a widower. In 1873 a daughter MaryAnne Hooper Roberts was born in Vulcan to Elijah and Mary Anne. They were there in the 1880 census and the 1884 ennumeration. Thomas lived with them. Also in the area was a brother -Enoch Solomon Roberts and his wife Grace Blight Roberts- and a nephew, son of Enoch, Enoch Roberts and his wife Lilly Vaughn Roberts. By 1891 Elijah was in Marquette County, in an area of Negaunee called Cornishtown. He was a widower and married Eliza Prisk Craze. Eliza's daughter was married to John Jennings. Was anyone on this list acquainted with Beattie Jennings, a school teacher? I cannot find the death cert for MaryAnne Roberts Sr, though Grace Blight Roberts died in Stambaugh. She was buried there but was later transfered to Ishpeming to be buried with her husband, Enoch, MaryAnne Hooper Roberts married Wm John Smitham in 1891 in Negaunee. After several moves, they settled in Stambaugh about 1910 or 1911, her obit lists her as a 'pioneer', and both are buried in the Stambaugh Cemetery. Would anyone with any connection or knowledge of these people please contact me. Thank you, ...Kathleen PS I am already in contact with my cousin Ron in Iron River.

    2. ... valentine53179
    3. I am writing because of an article in the Better Homes and Gardens Issue April, 2002. This is the American answer to the "1900's House", WNET production "FRONTIER HOUSE". You can see a slide show at www.bhg.con/frontier Apparently, the documentary will air on some PBS stations on April 29, 30 and May 1, 2002. It might give us a little more insite on how hard life was in the 1880's after the early generations arrived here from their homelands...... of course it might have been like this even for those that arrived much earlier..... I personally suspect that the trials were the same throughout the wilderness areas.... not just OUT WEST...... valentine____________________ at valentine53179@hotmail.com . . . .Get more from the Web. This is the information that I have received: The Marquette County Genealogy Society holds a picnic in July at the island (I assume Presque Isle). I do not have the exact date. We are driving out but our alternative plan was to fly to Detroit and take a plane right to Marquette. http://www.sawyerairport.com/ What are some of the Olson's you are researching? 3. Not sure about the Marquette Society picnic, as I am not sure which organization you are refering to but there is always a lot going on in Marquette and Ishpeming for the 4th of July. Places to visit for research: Marquette Historical Library (Longyear Research Room). This is housed in the Historical Museum at 213 N. Front Street right next door to the Peter White Public Library. They have many resources. I think it was $5 to use the resources (sort of annual dues) and 25 cents for copies. Peter White Public Library- Front Street just a couple blocks up the hill from Washington St. The public library in Ishpeming (sorry I don't remember the address), has many volumes of the old Mining Journal in PAPER form. They have been bound into very large books, each book contains a couple of months. Ask the librarian. They also have many of the old city directories, etc. A quick call to the chamber of commerce in Marquette will provide a list of activities and lodging and dining info. Marquette Cof C. 501 S. 3. I thought I should post and perhaps soemone out there has some info or suggestions. My ggrandfather, Andrew Larson had an older sister named Christina Carolina Larson. WhatI found on the Marquette County death records was a Carolina Christina Erickson who died in 1959. It lists her parents which were confirmed as my gggrandparents, Per Larson and Louisa Person. Apparently she preferred Caroline/Carolina. My mission is to find her husband and his family. Would anyone know of a related Erickson family in Marquette/Ishpeming/Negaunee area? She died at age 92!
