    1. [MIMARQUE] some nice changes
    2. ... valentine53179
    3. for those that like to check out the archives )like you know who) and find that loooooooonnnnngggggg line without a line wrap on all those very posts that YOU are interested in, you will be pleasantly surprised that it has had some rootsweb magic done on it.... viola! line wrap! (but if you do find one of those long ones, copy and paste it with the headers and send along to the help desk - you know that is found on the rootsweb.com home page.... (there might be some stragglers, out there for unique reasons....) and those poor folks that have common surnames or names that have several variant mailing lists, you owe it to yourself to check out the Mailing Lists Index because there has been a very nice change.... for example, you can click on surname SMITH and when you get to that page where you would be able to subscribe to Smith, you will find another secondary table of contents with hot links for all the lists where SMITH might occur.... so you would see all of these [AUS-SMITH-LOST] [George-Sterling-Smith] [NIMROD-SMITH] [SMITH] [SMITH-AL] [SMITH-AR] [SMITH-AUS] [SMITH-CA] [SMITH-CANADA] [SMITH-CT] [SMITH-DAVID] [SMITH-DE] [SMITH-ENG-LANCASHIRE] [SMITH-FREEDMEN] [SMITH-GA] [SMITH-HANTS-UK] [SMITH-ID] [SMITH-IL] [SMITH-IN] [SMITH-KS] [SMITH-KY] [SMITH-MD] [SMITH-MISSOURI] [SMITH-MN] [SMITH-MO] [SMITH-MS] [SMITH-NC] [SMITH-NEW-ENGLAND] [SMITH-NJ] [SMITH-NYC] [SMITH-OK] [SMITH-PA] [SMITH-SC] [SMITH-SCOTTISH] [SMITH-SWITZ] [SMITH-TN] [SMITH-TX] [SMITH-UK] [SMITH-VA] [SMITH-WI] [SMITH-WV] and then be able to click on that or scroll down the page to get to the subscribe links.... this only is available so far for SURNAMES not locales... and i for one, am going to overload the INDEX today, checking the new presentation for all my surnames..... might just find myself a new list....

    1. [MIMARQUE] E-Bay and genealogy.....howtos
    2. ... valentine53179
    3. on another list that i belong to, a post was made about an old history book being available for sale.... if you have not thought of ebay as a source for information regarding genealogy, its time to rethink........ there are many items that could help in your search and in providing you with illustrations for your own personal history as well as history of your elders.... maybe you used milk form a milkman...there might be a pic of the milk bottle on a sale that is occurring... maybe you visited olsen rug waterfalls in chicago... you might find a postcard that they used to sell there for sale in ebay... maybe you had a cookie jar that greatgrandma used to use all the time...and wow, one might be for sale....and a photo is there just for you.... all these things that you might be able to use to illustrate your family history book or use in research.... and you would be very surprised to see the number of postcards where the person sending and receiving is cited in the description of the postcard.... you just might find your own family person sending a postcard or letter to someone... just go to ebay - or any other auction site - and enter in your surname and see what comes up.. get into a routine and do it every 7 days... and check all of the info out.... you might be very pleasantly surprised.... then start adding place names... like buffalo or hamburg or chicago or escanaba... use the same rules as with google...... quotes + and - and lower case.... use titlesANDdescriptions and then select what special interest you have after you have an idea of what is presented... do i sell on ebay,? Nope... don't buy either, but I clip things of interest like a crazy person and paste them into running documents...(i cut off at about 20 pages in case i want to send it to someone...some email systems will not allow huge documents to be attached, so keep your application of your clips in mind when you create your files....)... i use ebay just like i might make a photocopy of a picture in a book at the library... i'm just using the ebaymedia as a tool in research! and oh, sometimes the person selling has a real good handle on history (antiquers do know history and the whys and wherefores just like we know the dates and places!) and often describes an item in quite good detail, providing you with OTHER leads... valentine

    1. [MIMARQUE] Frank Smith, Hungarian Descent in Marquette Co.
    2. lequia
    3. I am looking for descendants of Frank & Mary Smith. Frank was of Hungarian Descent and came to America about 1884-1889. I don't know if he was married when he came to Michigan or not. I do know that in 1891 he and Mary were living in the vicinity of Ropes Gold Mine or Ishpeming. They were Catholic and they were the sponsers at the baptism of Rose, illegitamate child of Mary Czervenyak. I would like to connect with descendants of Frank & Mary Smith because I believe they were related to Mary Czervenyak, perhaps Frank was a cousin and would be from the same town in Hungary which I have now identified. The surname may or may not have originally been Schmidt or Kovac. Sheri at sbcglobal.net

    1. [MIMARQUE] Lequia or Lecuyer surname variations- in Marquette County
    2. lequia
    3. Hello, I am new to this list. My husband is a descendant of Oliver Lecuyer (AKA-Lequia, Liquia, LaEscuyer, etc.) who arrived in Marquette County from Napierville, Laprairie, Quebec before 1870 and whose descendants lived in the areas of Ishpeming, Marquette and surrounding counties in Michigan. Oliver was married to Salome Remillard, dau. of Isaac Remillard. His known sons were: Joseph who married Julia Beauchamp, Napoleon who married Octavia Gerioux and then Mary (possibly one other wife as well), Philip who married Mary L' Amire or Lamire, Charles who married Philomena, Theodore, Henry, and Adelore or Delore who married Marie Czervenak. Delore and Marie Czervenak are our direct line. Marie was from Hungary. They had Rose, Joseph Frederick, Henry, Mary Eva, Isadore, Theodore, Thomas. I am also interested in a possible family connection to Andrew, Tony, Joseph and Oscar Sedlock who were from the same area of Hungary as Marie Czervenak and probably were related to her-perhaps cousins. I am interested in making connections with other descenants of this family line. Do any of you have connections to any of these people? I have much info to share and would like to fill in some missing pieces. Sheri LeQuia 1227 Panorama Pt. Merced, CA 95340 lequia@sbcglobal.net

Names include Alma Johnson, Olaf Olson, Laura Anderson; there are about six signatures total. Other items as follows: a.. 3 tintypes, rough cut to an approximate size of 2-1/4" x 3-1/4" each. Some minor scratches and loss to the images, one is slightly bent at the middle. b.. 1 CDV, 2-1/2" x 4-1/4", imprinted by R.A. Bonine, Altoona (Penn.). Very nice condition, man has pocket watch chain and fob hanging down. c.. 6 photo postcards, one with 1909 cancel, a couple others with writing but no cancel. 3. Sorry the link didn't go through with my post about the online indexes for naturalizations. You do need Acrobat Reader to view. If you find someone that you are interested in, it gives the book/volume and page so the people at the Archives know where to look. I called the Archives office. They take requests by mail, email or telephone. Their email is archives@num.edu. They need to know the last name of the person and year naturalized. They will send the information as a .jpg file attachment and there is no charge. If you do it by mail, there is a 10 cent charge per page plus $1.00 for postage. Their mailing address is Northern Michigan University Archives, 1401 Presque Isle Ave., Marquette, MI 49855. Their telephone number is 906 227-1225. Hope this helps, Laurie
