Greetings, just wanted to pass the word around to the local Manistee folks that State Rep. Pete Hooeskra is doing a presentation in Feb. around the 16th in honor of Tsgt. Calvin C. Davis. The Davis family was the first black family in that homesteaded in Manistee, 1862. Anyway, to make a long story short, Calvin Davis was killed in WWII. He is due some medals and the twist of the story is that he wanted to serve his country during the war, and passed for white to do it. Just wanted to share this. Thanks
