Tim Hughes Obituary Manistee Daily Advocate April 20, 1897 Death of David Hughes David Hughes, aged 62 years, died at his home 232 Meachum street, at 12 o'clock Monday night of asthma after twenty minutes' illness. The funeral services will be held at the Guadian Angel church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. Five sons and two daughters, William, Thomas, Arthur, George, Joseph and Maggis Hughes and Mrs. James Henchey survive him. Deceased is a pioneer of Manistee county, having resided here for 30 years. He was born in Canada in 1835 and came to Manistee in 1866 from Quebec. He began working at lumbering at the age of 14 years and continued until a few years ago, when he engaged in farming in Pierport. He returned to Manistee a year ago. Article - Manistee News - Advocate December 17, 1923 - pg 3 BODY OF OLIVE HUGHES ARRIVES DEATH OVERTAKES FORMER ONEKAMA SCHOOL TEACHER IN MUSKEGON The body of Olive Hughes of Onekama, who died Friday in Muskegon of leakage of the heart and blights disease, arrived in Manistee Monday noon. Miss Hughes was 22 years old and had lived in Onekama all her life. She went to Muskegon about a month ago with her sister, Mrs. R. Murphy, and soon after was taken sick. She has been in poor health for the past two years. For the past few years Miss Hughes has been teaching at rural schools in the vicinity of Onekama. She started her work this fall, but had to quit after a few weeks because of her poor health. Miss Hughes spent practically her entire life in and around Onekama and was a graduate of the High school there. Miss Hughes is survived by her father, Arthur Hughes of Onekama, two sisters, Mrs. R. L. Murphy and Miss Beth Hughes of Muskegon and three brothers Moris of Wichita, Kans., Howard of Muskegon and George of Onekama. Funeral will be held Tuesday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic church of Onekama and burial will be in the Catholic cemetery of Onekama. Rev. J. A. Camirand will officiate. Obituary Manistee Times June 24, 1871 The body of Thomas Duffy was found drowned in the boom of Green & Milmoe on Tuesday. He quite an aged man, a carpenter by trade, and has lived here several years. He leaves a wife and family.
