She married in 1917 and lived in the Lawrence, Mass. area. She spelled her name exactly the same and came from Wysoka, Austria (now Poland.) Her first name was seen two different ways, Marya and Marja. I saw many others with the same last name coming from Wysoka. I imagine you've used the Ellis Island website already. I also found a terrific helper site for using the Ellis Island site. It allows you to search the site several ways at the same time. Example: Try searching by last name and place. http://home.pacbell.net/spmorse/ellis/ellis/html

The 1st Mary was married to Andrew and they come to the states in between 1890 and the early 1900's. They settled in Stronach near Manistee. The only info I have on where they moved from was Old Austria, Poland. The 2nd Mary married one of Andrew and Mary's sons George. I believe the 1st mary's madien name was Suma and the 2nd Mary's Bilski but it could be vise versa. Let me know if any of this is helpful or if you need more info. Katie Jados

It may well be the same branch of the family but families, I have learned, were very secretive back then and if there was a member that they were ashamed of, they never mentioned them. I have since learned from the original social security application that William Mushaw may have been spelled Musial or Mushall. My grandmother said that he was born Jun 27 in Austria and married Margaret Sapien who was born on 1 Jan in Darmstadt, Hessen, Germany. I was a bit surprised that she didn't know what year her parents were born it though and have not been able to find out any other information on either of them except that they had 15 children, my grandmother being the oldest. Her son, my father (now deceased), never knew much about the family either so I have been left on my own trying to find anything out about the family. If you should find a connection, I'd gre! atly appreciate it if you let me know and I'll do the same.

My father is Jose Chavez Sapien from Canutillo, Texas (El Paso, County). His father was Florencio Sapien who was a fair-skinned, blue-eyed lady's man. I am informed that he was from Spain and was part Italian, Irish(?), maybe even French. He had been in Mexico and came to the US. All this was told to me because I was born after he died. My relatives have been dying and the information I have acquired has been sporadic. I am very much interested in finding out how our family acquired the name SAPIEN (which means WISE). In response to the name being German, I am sure that our relatives came from Europe, somewhere, and quite possibly moved about and lived in various European communities. My belief is that our relatives boarded a ship sometime back and came to Mexico when the Europeans came before the French Revolution (in Mexico). My grandmother on my mother's side (Nunez-Vigil) stated that her grandmother was a full-blooded French woman who married a full-blooded Indian (never found out what type) that wore loin cloths when the Europeans abounded in Mexico. My father's sister, Aunt Mary Sapien Tarango, stated that her father (my grandfather Florencio Sapien) came from Mexico. We need to get all our info together and may find out that the Sapiens (not very large) might all be related!!!!! Anyone with any info regarding my grandfather is requested to contact me!

I am researching the families of Ignatius Baczynski ca 1845 - 1902 and Mateusz Kielpinski 1841 - 1923. Both men and their families were in Manistee from 1872 to mid 1880's. I am especially interested in any information on a John Bachinski of Manistee 1838 - 1901 who appears almost certain to be a sibling of Ignatz. I am looking for a clue as to place of origin on the Baczynski family. That is the only line of my immigrant ancestors that I do not have an origin on. Thank you for any help that you may offer.

If no one can look it up at least you can call the court house and they may be able to look it up for you if you have that information. A lot of their records are gone due to a fire so you may not find anything. I know that is something that happened with my look up. Missy
