The family name was Kowalski and they changed it to Smith. I'm trying to find them in the 1880/1900 censuses. They lived 6 miles NE of the City of Manistee at 1994 Cedar Rd. near Bar Lake during those years. It would be so much easier to search if I knew what township this area was. Can anyone help?
I have limited information on a KABAT family that resided at 907 Kosciusko. The female Francis (born 1884) was the daughter of Frank (who surely was born around 1860s or earlier) and Kate. Other children of Frank were John, Lawrence & Mary that I know of. St. Joseph's records also list KABAT: Michal, Kaz, Wawrzyn, & Wlad. I have found Jerry Stege at St. Joseph's to be extremely helpful. He will look in baptism records and e-mail you all KABATs if you want. My interest in Francis is that she married into my KAMASINSKI family. Lawrence (born 1879) is recorded in the 1920 census with his wife and son at the Kosciusko address. Hope this is helpful. Good luck. Terri Brewer

Mr. Bedford served under Grant and Sherman in the Civil War and came to Manistee from Muskegon in 1872 as agent for the Goodrich Transportation Co. (Note: this obitutary came from "The Flint Daily Journal" which serves the Flint, Genesee County, Michigan area. This article was found on microfilm at the Flint Public Library, Flint, Genesee County, Michigan). I am not related to this family, I came across this article and thought as a civil war veteran, Stephen Bedford should be recognized.

My great great grandmother was Frances Marzynski, supposely born in Manistee Michigan in 1875, and lived until 1949 spending most of her life across the pond in Wisconsin. Her parents were Walenty (Valentine) Marzynski and Catherine Makowska. I believe they lived in Manistee area for at least five years as one of Frances' younger brothers was also born in Michigan. I am definitely interested in researching this line more and would like to share information.
I have a family from Manistee I wonder if anyone can help me out with George Washington Jones b jan 1846 d. 6 Dec 1903 in Stronach Co. George was married to Susannah Walling and had 8 children. Before the last one or two were born he was having children with Sarah Walling. Susannah eventually divorced George and the rumor is that he never married Sarah but they did have 8 children. Then I have heard of a marriage date of July 1880 but no information as to where and we have found nothing on that. Anyway one of George and Sarahs children Helen Mae b. 17 April 1886 was a housekeeper somewhere in Manistee and she became pregnant and had Roy in 1907. She stayed with the family? she was with until the baby was few months old and then went back home. She married Ole Oleson who changed his name to Ole Lindahl. They were married in 1909. The question I have is who is Roys real father??? If anyone has any information at all that can help me I would be grateful. I can find no birth record for Roy. I don't know what the name of the family she lived with was. In the 1900 census Helen is listed with her family so I don't know how long she worked for this other family or if there might be any city census that would be from other years. Thanks for your time. Beth
