Surnames: Abernethy, Switzer/Sweitzer, Kelsey, Walker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IGB.2ACI/561.1 Message Board Post: Dear Tee: I traced my own home (in Maine) back to ~ 1800 when it was built and to one of the original settling families of the town (1730s), so it is possible to do this. Here's what you do -- You can trace the house through the deeds. Go to the courthouse (or hire someone to go to the courthouse) and go through the Grantor/Grantee indices (seller/buyer). Find your parents' deed, which will say who they purchased it from -- John Smith -- and something like "this is the same property recorded in Book ABC, page 123." And then you go back to that book and page repeat the process. Then take those names and information to the local library and look for a local history. There are two online for the county at the Mt. Clemons PL. Alternatively, contact the local historical society and ask them who might know this information. Good luck! It's lots of fun ... (although I'm not sure I'd want my home to have been a funeral parlor either!) Best wishes, Marilyn Arnold
