Cheri, Lorelei, Tina, Marcia, Marilyn (hope I didn't miss someone) - you are coming up with some great ideas. I was really busy today & will be through Fri, but this weekend I am going to really study your ideas. Mount Vernon has been walked, but I also have a copy of the sexton records so will look at those too. It looks like Magloire Rivard b 1839 s/o Michael & Teresa is probably the same person as Frank Rivard on the 1860 census so he is pretty well eliminated. However, I just looked through the Macomb Co Probate Index I just found a file listed for Charles Ferdinand Rivard dated 1861 (I will look at that file as should be a date of death). At this point I don't know who he is. Thinking about the probate index - watch for it's debut on the Mt Clemens Library website within a couple of weeks. All of the case files are at the Library so it will be easy for you to search and obtain copies. > We are assuming the data on the tombstone is correct....and that some kids > didn't go playing a Halloween prank and bring the tombstone over from who > knows where. Argh! I double Argh! Cheri's comment. Thanks ladies.
It looks like this mystery will, with a big team effort, be solved. I'm sorry to miss the ending. I will be out of town until July 24. Here's another wild thought. My neighbor (in Maine) came across a few markers in her yard, not placed, but just lying around. and worried if people were buried there. After a little research and ponderings, we discovered, through land records, that the people that lived on the other side of the my house (2 lots down) in the 1800s had been gravestone makers, and lived briefly in the house next door. So, it was determined that these stones were samples -- stones that didn't make it to the graveyard because they weren't well done or had mistakes. FYI I've enjoyed this little "puzzle solving" dialogue!
